The film stands out from Jackie Chan’s usual comedies with its dark, serious atmosphere and heavy emphasis on 1990s car culture. For fans of iconic Japanese sports cars like the Mitsubishi Evolution, this film is a true visual feast, where all the crashes and high-speed chases are shot live without special effects. On the downside, due to Jackie Chan’s real-life leg injury, stunt doubles often take over in the fight scenes, which makes the hand-to-hand combat fall short of his best work. Nevertheless, it’s an excellent, high-octane old-school action film that served as a sort of precursor to The Fast and the Furious.
