“The Descent: Part 2”—I liked it first and foremost because it’s a sequel to the first film, with all that entails, even though it was made four years later.

In the film, we encounter the old characters—battered, exhausted, but alive. The first film didn’t provide a clear answer about their fate; the second one clarified it. The second installment doesn’t have a drawn-out opening like the first, and the viewer is quickly plunged into caves teeming with blind monsters that crave human flesh.

I liked that the action takes place in a cave we’re already familiar with, featuring plenty of “Easter eggs” from the first *Descent*. For an unprepared viewer who hasn’t experienced the first adventure through the caves, this might raise a lot of questions. Therefore, let’s assume that the film is primarily aimed at those who enjoyed the first part.

A good sequel to a good horror movie. That’s how you could briefly describe the second installment. Although the screenwriters put in the effort to incorporate the original female characters into the sequel, they did make a few missteps. They aren’t obvious. And they aren’t even mistakes—just some flaws in the script.

Like the first installment, the film is full of women’s screams, blood, and darkness. But since I watched the second installment right after the first, I’ll say that it doesn’t follow the typical sequel formula of “even bloodier and more of it.” No. Blood, screams, darkness, filth, a cave. That’s the hallmark of *The Descent*. Its trump card. Call it what you will, but without one of these elements, *The Descent* isn’t *The Descent* anymore.

While the first part of the film felt complete and self-contained, the second hints at a continuation. Personally, I wouldn’t want any more “Descent” movies. The second part puts a definitive end to a fairly well-crafted story about “Sarah and her friends.” Although, depending on the box office, we might just get one. At the very least, the film leaves the door open for a possible sequel.
