Roland Emmerich is one of those directors who was as if specially born to constantly destroy our planet on the big screens. It was he who once sent Godzilla himself to destroy New York, froze half of the planet in The Day After Tomorrow, and did not forget to leave us at the mercy of the Independence Day aliens. Critics turn their backs on his work, but viewers like how Emmerichs works, and therefore it was he who was contracted to direct the film "2012", perhaps the apogee of all the catastrophes that brought down the cinema on the long-suffering Earth.

Now about the plot. The best scientists on the planet will learn that very soon there will be a global catastrophe, the scale of which was not written even in the Bible itself. Apparently, there will not be a single safe place on the planet, which is immediately reported to world leaders. It is clear that it is impossible to save all of humanity and it is necessary to build the so-called arks so that civilization has at least a small chance of salvation.

But at the center of the story is not presidents and officials at all, but a simple writer Jackson Curtis, who must take his family out of the epicenter of disaster. But where to fly, where to run - in such a situation that develops, you will not understand. But Curtis still receives very important information and he still has a chance to save loved ones and survive the disastrous year 2012 himself.

The director does what everyone wanted from him, investing all the money in special effects and inviting interesting dramatic actors to lead roles in his project, who do not need to strain in a Hollywood blockbuster. In 2012, John Cusack played one of his most prominent roles so far. Oh, how he is lacking now in serious projects, he does not spare his career with dubious contracts. But even in 2012, where the main destruction is, he is good.

It was fun and a little sad to see Woody Harrelson. His role is small, chaotic, but immediately remembered. And Danny Glover from Lethal Weapon played here the President of the United States, although he was not noted for anything special. In general, the actors here are very good, even brilliant, but most of all I personally remember John Cusack, who knows and knows what a good game is.

From a scientific point of view, there is no sense in Emmerich's film. Yes, this is not the point. The main thing is that the director knows how to keep us on our toes and shows great landscapes of destruction that even Michael Bay never dreamed of.

This film should be viewed as a fairy tale. Scary, but extremely entertaining. "2012" turned out to be a landmark film for the genre, to be honest, after it it is difficult to shoot something as cool.
