It was with this film that he began his acquaintance with the work of the renowned comedian Mel Brooks. I remember that I saw a tape with him a long time ago, but I was somehow afraid to see it, I think it would turn out to be sheer nonsense. But I was wrong. Before us, although not a masterpiece of a cosmic scale, but at least a curious parody of space fiction.

In fact, this is the first full-length banter over "Star Wars", moreover, shot with the light hand of George Lucas, who, being a big fan of Brooks' film, helped with its promotion, and even the special effects were done at the studio owned by Lucas. They even allocated a huge budget for the parody of as much as $ 22,700,000 (for comparison, the budgets of the first two Star Wars did not exceed 18 million), which, however, hardly paid off. The technical side is pleasantly surprising, although you can't call it ideal, but it's still a comedy.

A comedy should be funny, and this case is no exception. There are a lot of terribly funny and hilarious scenes, although still not enough to maintain the viewer's interest throughout the entire action, although here you should rather scold the sometimes sagging plot. I am very pleased with the huge number of references to "Star Wars", "Star Trek", "Alien", "Planet of the Apes" and many others. There is also a lot of banter not only over cinema, but also over nationalities (about the Jews, the way they walked) and even politics. The humor cannot be called intellectual here, but the jokes do not cross the line of vulgarity, although it cannot be called a family comedy.

The acting work was quite pleasing. On the one hand, young Bill Pullman is very good. Then there is the terribly funny Rick Moranis and the funny little role of Mel Brooks himself. Well, John Candy is good. The rest are not very memorable, well, okay.

Conclusion: a funny parody that has almost become a classic. Not a masterpiece, but an interesting specimen. I advise everyone!
