Review 4K Movie
Black Widow is one of the studio's most anticipated films in recent memory among fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The tape was haunted by a very difficult fate, whose release was postponed several times due to the Coronavirus pandemic. And now, almost a year and a half after the publication of the first trailer, the solo film about the Avenger Natasha Romanoff finally made it to the theaters. Regular viewers of the franchise have not seen a superhero movie on the big screen from Marvel Studios and producer Kevin Feige in two years since the summer premiere of Far From Home. And therefore, everyone had great hopes for "Widow": firstly, this is a film that fans have been asking for more than one year, and secondly, some of them managed to miss such entertainment on the big screen.
“ Final ". Therefore, a separate film about the Widow does not need to show this very formation of a hero - Natasha is already a hero. A hero about whom little is known. Her past literally consists of only grains of information rather than a full-fledged backstory. What kind of childhood did she have? What is the red room and what happened in Budapest, about which the heroine repeatedly recalled with Hawkeye? “Black Widow” is a movie about this, with its overarching task putting the disclosure of the human side of the character in the first place, opening the curtain of secrets.
However, "Black Widow" is written and staged so tasteless that it is simply boring to follow Natasha's story. The main problem of the tape is precisely that it almost does not reveal its central character in any way. The audience is introduced to Natasha's dummy parents, her sister Elena performed by the charming Florence Pugh, but they are all so cardboard and stereotyped dummies of the second plan with weak disclosure that they, as full-fledged characters, do not catch on in any way. The main charm of the characters is the actors who play them. That Rachel Weisz as Natasha's spiritual mother, that David Harbor as a super-soldier a la the Soviet response to Captain America are incomparable. It is impossible to take your eyes off neither from them, nor from their acting. I really want to know their story, but the film, alas, does not even try to clearly reveal them, leaving the viewer with a bunch of questions after watching.
If you remove Weiss, Harbor and Pugh from the film and look at their characters exclusively from a script point of view, they will not be able to please them with anything. "Widow" exists exclusively within the framework of spy clichés, resembling a very unsuccessful parody of the best tapes about Jason Bourne, rather than an independent picture. At the same time, it would be okay that the film about Natasha was just a stereotyped spy thriller, of which the audience already has a carriage and a small cart without her, so even within the framework of the film-cliché "Widow" does not work in any way. This is especially true of the main antagonist, who just wants to take over and control the whole world in order to ... To take over and control the whole world? This is the only exposure for the villain the film gives. He just needs to be angry because he has to.
The film about the Black Widow categorically lacks personal scenes that can reveal the inner feelings of the heroine or her weaknesses, as it was in the TV series "Loki". There, the authors, already in the pilot episode, showed Loki from a completely different side, deconstructing the character's image, exposing his problems, fears and true essence, narratively lowering him from heaven to earth. That's why a solo project about a supporting hero is needed - to acquaint him with the audience from a completely different, unknown side. In the case of the film about Natasha, there is none of this - as she was a cool Avenger, she remains so in the eyes of the world - the events of her solo album do not affect anything. That is, a picture with a local conflict is not required a priori to have a global influence on the cinematic universe, but why the authors did not try to somehow influence the central character within the framework of the story is not clear.
"Black Widow" lacks fire in her eyes - it is too studio film even for Marvel Studios, not trying to portray itself at least something spectacular. Perhaps the problem lies in the director Kate Shortland, who did not cope with her tasks, as a result of which the tape cannot be compared with the same "Another War" by the Russo brothers, but it is impossible to put these pictures in one row - they exist as if in two completely different MCUs. There is no unequivocal answer why it happened so. As well as answering the question, why is this film needed at all? Does he provide answers to fans' questions? Yes, he does, but it would be better if he was silent than giving such ridiculous answers. Fans have long wanted to know what happened in Budapest and the answer to the manner: the whole is nothing - they obviously will not be satisfied. It's like Marvel has offered its audience one drawn-out joke without a punchline, instead of a picture of the Black Widow.
