Review 4K Movie

The idea of inviting professional basketball player and real sports legend Michael Jordan to the lead role in 1996's Space Jam proved to be a winning one, even though the iconic NBA player was completely unprepared for acting. Of course, Jordan did not show any special achievements in the 'Space Jam' and it was pointless for him to count on at least a Golden Globe, but his efforts were enough for many fans of the basketball player, and therefore it is not at all surprising that the studio thought about releasing a sequel , which had a very serious box office potential. However, Michael Jordan himself judged that he should no longer appear on the big screen in high-profile projects and returned to the bosom of sports, trying on the image of a top manager in one of the teams. Such a circumstance, of course, could not but affect the future plans of the producers, and they began to think over alternate paths for the development of the sequel, some of which could lead to a rather funny result.

At a certain stage in the production of 'Space Jam 2', it was decided to turn the story into a kind of spy parody, and Jackie Chan himself tried on the leading role. In addition, director Joe Pitka, annoyed by Jordan's departure from the project, decided to lead his game and even began developing a sequel, taking into account the fact that the 'Chicago Bulls' star could return to the set, but this, as you know, was not destined to come true. Finally, at the very beginning of the 20,000s, Warner studio nevertheless implemented part of the sketch for the sequel to Space Jam in the work on the Looney Tunes Back in Business project, where Brendan Fraser and Steve Martin played the leading roles, but the tapes failed miserably and even the popular cartoon characters from 'Looney Tunes' could not save her. After that, the development of further projects of the so-called comic Universe from Warner could be forgotten for many years. And yet the producers never dismissed the nostalgia that could spill over into millions at the box office, and with a wave of sequels to classic entertainment hitting Hollywood, it was time to revive Space Jam as well. Due to his age and unwillingness to get involved in various artistic adventures again, Michael Jordan refused to participate in the project. But this circumstance did not bother the producers at all, who found a younger and faster replacement in the person of LeBron James, another professional basketball player, whose personal fortune is measured in a billion dollars. And that was quite enough to rivet the increased attention of the audience to the 'New Generation'.

The plot of the second 'Space Jam' itself introduces us to LeBron James himself, who is far from having the best relations with his son Dom. From an early age, the boy dreams of computer games and even tries to become a real developer of digital entertainment, which his father does not like at all. LeBron himself was once a child, and instead of board games and consoles, he spent days and nights with the ball at the ring, and therefore he wishes the same to his son, completely refusing to accept the guy's point of view. Nevertheless, the father loves Dom very much and still tries to somehow improve relations with him. And then one day the heroes arrive straight to the Warner studio, where a very unusual proposal was prepared for Mr. James. Thanks to the newfangled technology of the basketball player, you can digitize and move his image to any franchise. However, James himself was far from happy with such a meaningless prospect and decided to go home. However, this goes against the plans of the powerful artificial intelligence Algo Rhythm (Don Cheadle), who in an amazing way transported James and his son into the world of computer technology. And now LeBron needs to assemble a team as quickly as possible and fight the enemy on the basketball court, because otherwise it will be impossible to return back to the real world.

In the original film by Joe Pitka, there was almost no family drama between the main character and his household, and those rare scenes of emotional relationships that still took place in the 'Space Jam' were a completely insignificant piece of timing. The creators of the 'New Generation' decided to act in a completely different way, planning to present to us all the problems of communication between LeBron James and his son, while sacrificing high-quality jokes and dynamics. Of course, this circumstance could be called commendable if the authors were able to present us with a truly sentimental drama that would be organically woven into the plot and would not bother, but nothing of the kind was done. Long, exhausting conversations about who and what should be doing, as well as many other boring patterns that reveal the conflict of generations, become a heavy burden that drags history to the artistic bottom. And yet, despite the director's frankly failed attempts to find a dramatic beginning in LeBron James and make the New Generation something more than a family entertainment movie, it must be admitted that the sequel to Space Jam also has its merits, which can partially dilute unsuccessful attempts to play the psychology of relationships between generations.

Of course, there is much less basketball in this film than in the first part, but there are reasons for this. The creators of The New Generation, led by Malcolm D. Lee, were clearly directed to include as many iconic Warner characters as possible in their film, and this time around, Looney Tunes were not enough. No, of course the ubiquitous Bugs Bunny and his comrades continue to play a prominent role in the plot, but here it was also important to gallop through other universes from Warner, including Harry Potter, DC, Game of Thrones and many others. Partly because of this, Space Jam: The Next Generation is reminiscent of Steven Spielberg's blockbuster Ready Player One, but with a more comical twist. And although many scenes do not carry any plot development and were created simply so that the knowledgeable viewer sees their favorite characters from third-party stories, it is still much more interesting than watching LeBron James suddenly wake up and begin to realize that his son should not grow up to be an exact copy of the father. In addition, from a technical point of view, 'Space Jam 2' pleases with high-quality, large-scale special effects, and the digital drawing of the characters turned out to be quite pleasant, from which even long-time fans of 'Looney Tunes' will be pleased to watch how their idols are transformed into a more technological version of themselves. myself.
