Few people know about the existence of the animated DC universe, despite the fact that it has existed for 8 years, and always has positive reviews from critics and good fees. But everything comes to an end, and, sadly, for me personally, as for many fans, it didn’t sound, but the Dark Justice League: War of the Apocalypse, this is the last picture in the animation universe. So let's try to figure out whether DC and the Warners managed to maintain the bar of quality.

Let's start with the sketch. She is the same here as in all 16 previous films of the universe, somewhat reminiscent of anime. Someone will like it, someone will not, I personally like it. It can be blamed for the lack of detail, but as the experience of watching 17 films with such a picture shows me, detail is not really needed. The picture conveys dynamics very well, which is useful during action scenes, I personally am pleased to look at the strict facial features of the characters, but this is subjectivity. Almost all of DC's animation of recent years is drawn in this style, and if you like it, you can safely watch it. Objectively, the bad decision was to use 3D graphics elements, because it looks just awful. But it is so small (I saw only 2 tiny moments) that 95% of the audience simply will not notice it.

This picture, as mentioned above, is the finale of the 8-year-old animation universe, and in some ways it can be compared with the fourth Avengers, also a crossover of various characters, also the final battle with the main villain, only the main difference is that there are no continuations of this there will be no history, and the creators need to make a harmonious and beautiful ending. And they coped with it perfectly. But more on that later. Since all the characters were already revealed and all the stories were told, the main task of the creators was to combine the plot so that all the characters looked harmonious in it and performed their function. And the characters there were just darkness. And here, too, the studio can be praised, they managed to take part of each of the teams represented in the picture and give them a specific task, and when running at an hour and a half, it was not so easy to do.

The plot itself, too, has nothing to blame, although, to my regret, it is far from the strongest in the universe, the first trilogy about Batman, and especially “Batman against Robin”, and several other paintings, were, as for me, much more interesting deeper and more catchy, but maybe I was just expecting more. The first part of the plot really seemed a bit fresh to me, there was little dynamics in it, and some unpleasant changes in the characters caught my eye, but we'll talk about them later. By the middle, I already thought that the cartoon would be too mediocre, but the second part pleased me much more. There, a sufficient amount of action and a lot of plot twists await the viewer, maybe even went too far with them at the very end, but since this is the end of the story, it’s quite normal that the scriptwriters didn’t restrain themselves, and in the finale we just expect a mountain of “pianos in the bushes ". But this makes the cartoon impressive and memorable. The finale itself, this is the strongest part of this work, is most logical, correct and sustained in the tones of the entire universe, with a connection with previous robots, the scriptwriters were able to complete the story, and the last scene is simply magnificent. Speaking of the plot, I can still add a minus to him, and even so, there’s nothing to blame him for. The film has an abundance of plot conventions, the scriptwriters made it convenient, and some events affecting the plot take place simply at the click of a finger. Although such tricks are from the creators, I do not consider it a big problem.

The entire cartoon is designed in a dark, heavy atmosphere. Since, as I said, the creators did not restrain themselves, the audience expects a lot of deaths on the screen. But I don’t think that these characters were not merged, because, firstly, important characters die tragically enough, which is the main engine of the drama, and secondly, since in the following pictures a completely different story awaits us, these characters can be there will appear in a completely new form, and here they served to create a general gloom, and shock the audience. The latter incidentally was done very diligently, a huge amount of violence and cruelty on the screen, a sea of ​​blood with all the consequences that set the tone for the picture.

Finally, it's worth talking about the heroes. Unfortunately, I can not say anything about the voice acting of the characters, because I did not want to watch with subtitles, so as not to be distracted from the picture itself. Speaking of characters, I can highlight several significant disadvantages. Because of the gloom in the film, there was a very small amount of humor, but it would be better if it were not at all. A character named Etrigan was turned into the main engine of humor, and very low-quality, Sitcom, farting humor, which completely did not fit the tone of the picture. Much more I liked the image of Harley Quinn, who was also mostly humorous. The character Kontantin, who is one of the main characters, has lost his texture, especially in the first part of the cartoon, in the second I like him a lot more. I can compare this character with him, but in his solo album The City of Sins, or in the Dark Justice League, and there he was much more serious. A cynical, misanthrope antihero who always has everything under control, in this picture he was made much less judicious and inspiring. The main opponent of Superman, Lex Luthor, was completely merged, turning him into a puppet and a coward, although in the previous paintings, he also looked much more serious. I think you should not disassemble all the main characters, especially since there are too many of them, and with them everything is mostly good. They logically completed their story, and their final image on the screen was quite worthy. I didn’t have enough of Batman in the usual form for the viewer, but this is also subjectivity.

Bottom line: despite the overwhelming ratings, I do not consider the Dark Justice League: War of the Apocalypse as a masterpiece. But this does not negate the fact that this is a very good and high-quality robot. I think those who watched the animation universe of DC, and so will not miss this picture. But is it worth it to watch those who do not understand this topic. Definitely yes, in a way, this is even a plus: there will not be unnecessary comparisons with previous works, and in general the cartoon turned out to be interesting and memorable. But if you are not familiar with the universe, and want to watch this cartoon, then you should be prepared for a lot of violence and cruelty in the frame, which in general does not spoil the impression of the film, but even vice versa, supports the general atmosphere. I enjoyed watching, and I think that this work is definitely worth an hour and a half of your time.
