There lived a great green giant named Shrek in a fairy-tale state. He lived in splendid isolation in the forest, in a swamp, which he considered his own. But once an evil little man - Lord Farquad, the ruler of the magic kingdom, mercilessly drove all the fairy inhabitants to Shrekovo swamp.

And the green giant's carefree life came to an end. But Lord Farquad promised to return the swamp to Shrek if the giant gets him the beautiful princess Fiona, who languishes in an impregnable tower guarded by a fire-breathing dragon.

One of the most iconic cartoons for both children and adults is, of course, "Shrek", which is the quintessence of a fairy tale plot, sparkling jokes and an addictive plot that can be reviewed for years.

The story is a parody of the classic tales of handsome princes and princesses, evil ogres, fearsome dragons, and a variety of other magical creatures. The characters are taken from the folklore works of different peoples (the magic mirror from Snow White, the Prince Charming and the fairy godmother from Cinderella, etc.) who live in a time that seems to be close to the Middle Ages, but in fact has the features of our century, and they themselves are caricatures of various types of modern man. And although the cartoon contains elements of ridicule of modern society, it is still mostly a fairy tale, leading to deep morality that is relevant at all times.

Sometimes, you will not find so many clever thoughts and correct ideas in, at first glance, a deep film or even a book, but here the creators, exposing all this in such a ridiculous shell, did the almost impossible - they showed what is real evil and what is true good. And all this on the example of such atypical, but such charismatic characters! I would even rather show my children Shrek, and not some modern children's cartoons, which seem to be quite bad in comparison with the "old school".

Here, both the picture itself and the deep ideas, which may not openly, but will certainly teach the right one, are of high quality, will help to assimilate such simple life truths in the form of a playful and pleasant fairy tale. But for adults, humor remains, which is the highlight of the film. It seems that adult jokes are veiled in an interesting fairy-tale-medieval context, which is not clear to children, but very “to the point”. Definitely the best Dreamworks movie for me. By the way, other cartoons of the series came out no worse, but it was the first part that sunk into my soul. Probably, the effect of the first impression played here.

In general, this is, I'm not afraid of this word, a movie that seems completely unpretentious and even superficial, but in reality it is not at all like that. And I would advise everyone who has not yet seen this work of art (if there are still such "unenlightened" ones) to look at at least the first part, and then you can get involved.
