During a business tour of Eastern Europe, the head of a large international weapons company Palisade decides to organize a weekend for eight employees to maintain team spirit and sends them by company bus to Hungary, to a remote forest cottage. But they do not reach the place, as the road is blocked by a fallen tree, and the driver, refusing to go another way, after a conflict with a senior employee, leaves. Once in the middle of the forest, the group decides to go on foot and stumble upon an unpretentious-looking house. Soon it becomes clear that someone is following them.

A group of employees from an arms company go on a corporate retreat to Eastern Europe and, getting lost, stumble upon a strange house in the middle of nowhere. Soon, it becomes clear that the local forest is inhabited by some strange people in camouflage who are eager to kill our hapless travelers. A completely hackneyed plot, you might say?

But fortunately for viewers, the film Severance stands out from similar slasher films such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Wrong Turn, and The Hills Have Eyes with its deliberate lightheartedness and skillful mockery of genre clichés. There are numerous references to classics and trademark British black humor (some characters manage to joke even after their death), a mandatory scene with half-naked busty girls presented in a comedic tone, a constantly partying and experiencing “highs” drug addict hero played by Danny Dyer, as well as many bloody but very funny scenes (the episode with the severed limb being packed in the refrigerator was especially hilarious).

The characters in The Office, although they represent a set of standard office plankton types - a beautiful girl with whom almost all her colleagues are in love, a smoker, a sycophant, an insecure manager, a sharp-tongued white-collar worker—are quite likable and, most importantly, look right at home, which distinguishes them from the usual dull teenagers typical of the genre, who usually make you want the maniac to win as soon as possible.

Overall, in spirit, The Office Party is closest to British comedy horror films such as Shaun of the Dead and The A-Team. Those who like films of this kind will surely enjoy Christopher Smith's creation as well.
