Review 4K Movie

What we have here is a fairly typical horror story, set in a location that’s unusual for the genre: a landfill. Naturally, the protagonists won’t be the children of wealthy parents, models, or office clerks, but rather the dregs of society—those who have no place in respectable society. These include the homeless, Vietnam veterans, and prostitutes—in short, all those people we try our best to forget about. They are the ones who will become the heroes of our story today. They, and also the miracle drink “Gadyuka,” which is sold in a dilapidated little shop for a dollar a bottle and which turns any daredevil who decides to drink it into a pile of slime, into “street trash.”

Essentially, the viewer is presented with a film where the overall plotline—and, for that matter, the main character—are present only in name. Sure, there’s that ill-fated drink that “makes life easier” for people and sends them off to meet Lucifer, or perhaps to the Garden of Eden, but the focus isn’t really on it. Who knows what kind of junk they sell in stores for pennies? People buy it hoping to save money, and then complain that they were sold something they didn’t want. And the “Viper” elixir solves the problem of dissatisfied customers in a flash. Well, yes, the film has a main character—a homeless man who, as the plot unfolds, introduces the viewer to various characters—but the thing is, he’s only the main character in name, since he doesn’t really influence the plot, and the events that were meant to happen will happen anyway. In doing so, the filmmakers seem to be trying to draw the viewer’s attention to the fact that the protagonist is just a man of the crowd (well, okay, from the dump), who wants to rest and relax, he craves bread and circuses, and in doing so, the filmmakers draw a parallel between the film’s protagonist and the viewer, who also craves an unforgettable spectacle.

Thus, “Street Trash” serves as a distorted mirror reflecting both Hollywood cinema and the people who watch it. At the same time, the filmmakers aren’t trying to offend or upset the audience. Rather, they’re saying—boys and girls, sit back, grab some food and drinks, and let’s laugh together at this movie, at this life, and at each other. What? The people in this movie turn into slime, and that might ruin your appetite? Oh, don’t worry—the filmmakers have thought of that, so even though people are melting right before our eyes, this movie won’t have any unnecessary anatomical details, blood, or guts. There was a person, and now they’ve turned into something resembling a live yogurt culture, lying quietly off to the side and showing no signs of life.
Hmm, what? One of the homeless guys had his penis cut off, and then they started using it (the penis, not the homeless guy) as a basketball? Well, yeah, that happens, but damn it, it all goes down to such upbeat music, and the situation itself looks so comical that there’s no way to take it seriously. Or the moment when the main character steals a bottle of booze and runs away, with half the town chasing after him to the tune of cheerful music. Oh yeah, you could see stuff like that on “The Benny Hill Show”—so what? Such a chase may be as old as the hills, but it still manages to bring a smile. Or the scene in the supermarket… wait, hold on! The whole movie consists of scenes like these, and each one looks funny, absurd, and in a way even original, so you just have to see it, since it’s very hard to convey this in words.

As for the actors, the filmmakers didn’t disappoint here either. People off the street were cast in both leading and supporting roles. The lines they deliver don’t come across as flowery, sophisticated dialogue or monologues, but as simple, everyday speech you might hear on the street, at home, or at work. At times, it feels like the actors are improvising on the spot and saying whatever first comes to mind, but given the level of absurdity in the film, I think that’s exactly what the screenwriters intended. Well, yes, the actors—despite looking incredibly charismatic—overact terribly, but that’s not a flaw, it’s a feature, because if the actors had played it completely straight, the film would have lost most of its charm.

What can I say? What we have here is 100% trash—dirty, crude, absurd, but most importantly, funny. The people behind this film approached their work with complete seriousness. There’s excellent cinematography, a great soundtrack, and vivid special effects, and most importantly, the creators didn’t go overboard with the humor and jokes; even if they don’t make you smile, they don’t provoke rejection either, as is usually the case in films of this sort. This is a film that lands a powerful right hook on both polished Hollywood films and Troma Studios, which never managed to achieve what this film has—namely, to mock world cinema without offending anyone. This is a film I can confidently recommend to anyone who enjoyed *The Evil Dead*, *Kill Bill*, and *The Hobo with a Shotgun*. Trash movie lovers, this film is for you!
