Story Movie

The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie 4K 1972 FRENCH Ultra HD 2160p
A mocking, surreal sketch of the worthless life of the bourgeois. Unforeseen circumstances interfere with the characters' lust for a meal with enviable consistency. Dream and reality intertwine in a kaleidoscope of delirious events.

Review 4K Movie

Genre: surrealistic comedy. It would seem, how is this possible. Clearly, Surrealist paintings are something intelligible, depicted in a strange form. Just think of the paintings of Salvador Dali. Not all of them can be looked at at all without shuddering. And what can make a full-length film surreal?

At the center of the narrative are six people, their secrets and dreams. Excellencies, Lordships, three Monsieurs and three Madames. They gather around the table six times, but each time they fail to have dinner, for a different reason, each time it gets more fantastical. Some disturbances (going into the theater by mistake, the appearance of armed terrorists) are part of dreams in general. These fictions are so closely intertwined with reality that sometimes it's hard to know where our heroes really are. Maybe they were just walking down the road the whole time, and we could hear their friendly footsteps.

Fernando Ray, Paul Francoeur, Delphine Seyrig, Bulle Augier, Stéphane Audran, Jean-Pierre Cassel help create this illusion. You can look at the actors, you can admire their performance and still not understand the meaning of everything that is going on. One cannot only tear oneself away from watching Luis Buñuel's magnificent film, in which the humor is sliced so thinly that it is easy to miss it, as, for example, with the phrase 'Tea is over'. In its essence, such a statement is absurd, and the movie is absurd, because here the bishop works as a gardener and shoots a double-barrelled gun, the young maid claims to be 52, and the soldier tells chilling stories that involve ghosts and dead people, and everyone listens quietly.

Yes, this tape has the same effect on the brain as paintings by Salvador Dali. A watch is like a clock, but a surrealist has it hanging from trees like pancakes. Aristocracy is aristocracy, but in the hands of Buñuel's master it creates something akin to a nightmare, which, however, one does not want to interrupt until the final credits. Bravo to the creator of 'The Humble Charm of the Bourgeoisie'! The film unequivocally deserves the title of Best Foreign Film of 1973 by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
