The film 'Happy Death Day' released in 2017 turned out to be a kind of surprise. Probably no one will be a secret that no one and absolutely nothing was expected from this work at all. At best, it could have been just a tolerable copy of ideas stolen from 'Groundhog Day', but seasoned with a slasher component. What other interpretations of 'Groundhog Day' we haven't seen, but perhaps 'Happy Day of Death' turned out to be one of the most remarkable. And this is doubly surprising, since before that director Christopher Landon has not been remembered by anything worthy at all, except for the creator of the frankly lousy 'Devil's Mark', which further aggravated the sad state of the dying days of the 'Paranormal phenomenon' franchise. Nevertheless, 'Happy Death Day' proved to be quite a successful experiment, and the sequel was not long in coming.

The sequel story starts almost immediately after the events of the first film. The heroine, who has already suffered a lot during the last 'Groundhog Days', suddenly finds herself back in the same time loop, which is so boring to her. Only now she knows exactly what she has to do, and she also knows the person who is to blame for all these time paradoxes. But this does not make solving the puzzle any easier, as the situation is exacerbated by the fact that the hapless time traveler manages to get not quite in his own reality.

To tell the truth, Christopher Landon has got the most correct sequel, that is, he multiplies everything that was good in the first movie, but does it rather skillfully. At once, we would like to mention that it hardly makes sense to make any complaints about the plot of the film. Here we have a frankly black comedy, which has departed from the slasher part even more in comparison with the first part. The characters are now and then some completely wild and incredibly ridiculous situations, which cannot be taken seriously even with the best will in the world. Happy New Day of Death" is, first of all, a perfectly entertaining movie which copes with the mentioned task perfectly. What pleases no less is the fact that the entire cast is back here in its entirety, and at the expense of that, the film doesn't feel like something of a rip-off. That is, the events of the first and second films are something in common, as if there were no gap between the two parts. It is impossible not to notice the magnificent acting of the stunning Jessica Roth, she perfectly conveys all the emotions of her character, from anger, hatred, joy, sadness and finally madness, you may as well give an Oscar for it.

In the end it is worth drawing a line under everything that has been said before. And that line tells me, without a doubt, that fans of the first movie should by no means skip the sequel, for it has added greatly in all the good things that made the audience love the first Happy Death Day movie. At the moment, it is the best collaboration with the not unknown 'Groundhog Day', or rather its plot component. Despite its completely gruesome subtext, the picture is able to lift your spirits, and even to make you laugh outright, which I personally could not get from so many movies of the comedy genre. It is quite possible that a sequel here would be superfluous, but if the creators have as many ideas for it as for the second film, and it can just as well hold the intrigue, then by all means, hello.
