Review 4K Movie
This is only Clint Eastwood's second film as a director. After his directorial debut in 1971 with the crime drama Play Me Before You Die (you'll have to see it, by the way), Eastwood decided to put all his experience as a western actor and his ideas into his 1973 brainchild, The High Plains Tramp. In this film, the 43-year-old Eastwood had the opportunity to show what he had not been able to show in the films, where he was only listed as an actor, you can say that in those films, his hands were tied. Well, in this film, Clint tried to implement all his ideas, and I think he succeeded in it (and in general, you decide).
I haven't seen too many films in the western genre, and I just can't seem to adapt these kinds of films to my own sensibilities. It so happens that I can not get used to the genre. What am I trying to say? I'm trying to say that this picture is the best I've seen of westerns, that's my opinion (I need to see more films like this), the best so far. Everything in the film looks very believable, from the setting to the sound of the shot. In fact, in pictures like this, the truthful sound of the shot is the key to success. After all, there's a lot of shooting in a Western, and it shouldn't sound like bursting packages or the sound of a clapper. Well, there's nothing wrong with that part of "The Tramp...". There's also a great atmosphere that grabs you right away, despite the unhurried progression of events. Yes, at first, it does seem that everything seems to be developing slowly. While the protagonist is getting to the town on his horse, while he is going to the saloon, etc. But after waiting a little while for those moments, it gets really interesting, you already forget about everything. Now you're there. Now you're a participant in it all. It's your eyes. It is you who is watching it all. The atmosphere completely absorbs you.
You and I get a great opportunity to observe the life of a small, harmless town that has geographically chosen to be nestled in the middle of a vast and stuffy desert. It is really very stuffy, hot, people are suffocating, and their sweat is gushing. The city is very quiet, and life goes on unhurriedly. It would seem that nothing can disturb this peace, and guests in this settlement are very rare. There is a reason for this. One day an event happened here that turned everything upside down, people changed, they became afraid of everything. Just one day four scoundrels brutally murdered a sheriff, a sheriff who was guided in his actions only by the laws of good, there was no other for him. The bandits, of course, paid for their deed, they went to jail. But the terrible thing awaits all the residents - the villains will soon return. Here, just by the way, there is a gentleman from nowhere, which is intended to help this glorious town.
Who is he? His name is unknown to anyone and he does not reveal his character. Cold-blooded, terse in speech, clear and judicious in his actions, he is a warrior for justice. He gives people something that they have not known in themselves until now. That's the kind of guy Clint Eastwood played. I liked his play very much, the highest skill. It's amazing how you can play through all the time (and not so little), without showing the slightest emotion, you can even count on your fingers how many times he changed his expression. But he inspired confidence, such a man is capable of single-handedly terrorizing or guarding an entire city. Yes, he is a loner. A loner who never for a moment revealed his essence.
There is one major mystery in this film that is mystical in nature. There's nothing left to do but succumb a little to reflection. Could it be that this Unknown (let's assume he has that name) is the dead sheriff who has returned for revenge? Or maybe the sheriff survived that time, but the fact remains that he has come to exact his revenge. And it is quite possible that there is no mysticism or mystery here, and our hero simply did not want to reveal himself, to open up, and just after his case to evaporate one day forever.
I would like to note that one of the keys to the success of this film is the camerawork. There was a special smell from those close-ups, long-range angles which was felt far beyond the screen. Well, the main merit in the success of the film is the acting and direction of Clint Eastwood. Eastwood was able to create the kind of western which is still successful today (I can confirm that). By the way, before watching it, I thought I had never seen this movie, but it turns out that I remember many of the moments, it turns out that I watched it in bits and pieces, after all.
I'd like to recommend this movie to anyone who wants to start their acquaintance with westerns, or who wants to have a good time. The film will make you worry, worry, sometimes smile, sigh, etc. Clint Eastwood's second directorial project is worthy of attention, all in all.
