Having fun manipulating commercial networks, an aspiring hacker does the almost impossible: he breaks the security of a secret Gibson computer at Ellington Corporation. In doing so, he accidentally gets involved in a scheme to steal funds, skillfully disguised by someone as a computer virus, the effect of which could lead to a global environmental disaster.

The young hacker and his buddies turn into suspects in a split second. The hunt for them begins with the FBI and the chief computer officer of the corporation Ellington nicknamed Plague (Fisher Stevens). However, the young hackers discover the perniciousness of Plague's true plans and combine their technical knowledge to launch a massive cyberspace attack that should clear them of suspicion and prevent an ecological disaster.

If you believe the data about the movie, the creators and representatives of the cast attended various gatherings of hackers to get into their spirit, the atmosphere of their communication. In principle, this spirit and atmosphere in the movie is enough and the viewer can understand what kind of hacker he is.

There are a lot of references to the hacker "craft", in particular a couple of characters have nicknames Phantom Freak and Cereal Killer, which are puns on real hacker terms. Phantom Freak stands for Phreaking (hacking into telephone/telecommunications services), while Cereal combined with Cereal Killer stands for serial key, i.e. the license key of some software.

The hacking in this movie is a kind of cry of youth or rather a call of the same youth to be heard. Hacking into the security systems of companies and penetrating into the systems of water supply control - all these are ways to assert yourself among teenagers like yourself (if we are talking about Jonny Lee Miller's character, for example), and secondly - it is also a way to draw attention of adults who think that teenagers are harmless....
