Review 4K Movie
Jake Scully is an unsuccessful actor who suffers from claustrophobia, which causes him to have difficulties while filming a new movie. On top of that, he is cheated on by his common-law wife with another man, whom he catches unawares right at home in the bedroom. Devastated by the unpleasant events that have befallen him in one day, Jake goes to a bar to drown his sorrows in whiskey and to think about finding a new place to live. Jake's buddy, Frank, is just looking for someone to stay in his apartment while he's on the road. This luxurious apartment has the same gorgeous view, but the main feature is the binoculars and the house across the street, in the windows of which the charming neighbor Gloria in the evenings arranges a striptease. Jake decides to get to know Gloria better, but he meets her under very strange circumstances, and Gloria herself is later murdered, the only witness to which the protagonist will become when he once again peeks. One thing is clear - this show was not played by chance, and the striptease in the windows across the street was not only Gloria herself. It was just a distraction, and the unlucky actor will be just a pawn in the criminal game.
Brian De Palma, who was already nominated by default by acrimonious critics for the Golden Raspberry Anti-Award as the worst director in the 80s, was again out of luck. “Fake Body”, like the previous Hitchcockian in style pictures of this director of the 80's, failed at the box office, and was trashed by critics, who, for some reason, took this frankly parodic movie seriously. But in fact, “Framed Body” is just a completely harmless teasing of Maestro Hitchcock. This can be seen, being aware of Alfred Hitchcock's work, in particular, being familiar with the classic films “Window to the Yard” (1954) and “Vertigo” (1958), the plots of which here turned out to be bizarrely mixed and presented in a noticeably non-serious and humorous, to put it simply, in a “stereotypical” way. The fact that this is more a parody of Hitchcock than an imitation of him is noticeable, even taking into account the fact that many “thriller” scenes really keep you in suspense and do not give you a break for a minute. Of course, the first half of the movie with more than half an hour of the main character following the movements of the mysterious girl from the house across the street, who wants to kill, seems a bit drawn out and sags in some places, but in the second half the action quickly accelerates and makes up for lost time. Actress Melanie Griffith, thanks to her participation in the filming of “Framed Body” as a porn actress, being nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress, opened the way to big movies. Perhaps, ironically, here also played a role in the important fact that Melanie Griffith is the daughter of Tippi Hedren, the same blonde from the films of Alfred Hitchcock, however, starred in his later films, not those that are here played by De Palma. All in all, this cinematic joke from Brian De Palma, in my opinion, succeeds to the fullest, thanks to a dashingly twisted and unpredictable script with cleverly scattered small clues, the director's actual direction with wonderful long takes, and composer Pino Donaggio seems to have written one of his best soundtracks here, which listens just magically and in isolation. In any case, “Framed Body” is still capable of leaving any sophisticated or unsophisticated viewer fooled in the final act. At least, even after the third viewing of the picture in my life, I still did not leave the feeling that I, simply, played a trick.
