Review 4K Movie

Of all the Hitchcock films that I have seen (and, in principle, of all the films that I have seen in general), this one is, in my opinion, the most cinematic, the most subtle, the most delicate, in a word, the most ingenious. In general, grandfather Alfred knew exactly the essence of human emotions and never stooped to the level of a stupid scarecrow. His play is a play with human feelings. His style, creating the right atmosphere, not so much by visual, but atmospheric. Creation of a gradually growing feeling of anxiety in a person from the depths of the soul, touching the most delicate spiritual strings. In this sense, from a number of Hitchcock's most brilliant creations, to which we can refer to the example of "Psycho", I would single out the "Window to the Courtyard" in the first place. This is a movie for a thinking person, for a moviegoer who loves, watching a film, through his prism, to delve into himself. Cinema for an elite viewer who really loves art, piece goods. So lovers of modern pop "Paranoia" run the risk of being very disappointed with them.

The film reveals for us one of the main human needs - to peep through the keyhole, figuratively speaking. You really can't resist such a forbidden fruit. And LOVE is to blame for everything, it is it that moves the main mechanisms in a person, allowing you to forget about other equally important needs (food, rest, sex) and excite the imagination at the same time.

The lead is simple and trivial. A man who has broken his leg is forced to lie at home all day, where his only entertainment is the window, behind which the private life of his neighbors opens. Each of the neighbors, in turn, is quite worthy of the whole film, because despite the fact that we only have the opportunity to watch them, we really discover the whole world. There are no minor characters, each has its own life drama, which we would not have known about if we had not watched their secret life. This is what the film is about. About public, ostentatious life, which everyone knows about, and about private personal life, which, except for yourself, no one knows about. If you walk on a robot all day, cheerful, naturally you are mistaken for a cheerful person in life, and they have no idea that perhaps under this mask is hiding another person who roars into the pillow every night or cuts his own wife into pieces, everyone knows about your public life and I just don't know what kind of monster or, on the contrary, a delicate vulnerable creature you really are. The film is about this. General and personal.

But from the whole story, the story of murder comes to the fore. But here you need to ask yourself: "Was there a murder?" Suspense is just brilliant. How much imagination can do based on just one little detail. How much harm, or vice versa, good (depending on whether the guess is correct or not) can be brought by a person who, due to circumstances, peeping out the window, interferes with someone else's, private life. After all, from the very beginning to the end we are wondering: “Is he or not? To be or not to be?". But, in spite of the hero's beliefs and the far-fetched fantasies of his girlfriend, the sound, judicious look of a policeman's friend may well put everything on the shelves, saying that this is just PARANOIA. And it happens that you yourself believe in a rational cold gaze, discarding guesses. But here the director puts on a brilliant episode that turns everything upside down, in a moment, changing our idea of what happened there. This is an episode in which a lonely lady finally finds a gentleman, but after he tries to get something from her that she cannot give, she kicks him out and decides to commit suicide, but later we again wonder whether she wants to commit suicide or not. This episode in a reduced form reveals the secret of the entire film and is essentially a miniature copy of the film. An episode in which the director shows that not everything is as smooth as it is drawn to us, that sometimes it is better for us to try to dig deeper and something that we should not know will open up, but we really want to know more.

Despite the fact that this is a thriller, it is not scary, but rather attractively anxious and romantic. At the same time, anxiety and romance, in fact, incomparable things in this film create an absolutely brilliant atmosphere of the film. On the one hand, the killer who cold-bloodedly killed his wife and arranged everything with scrupulous precision, leaving the impression of a nerd of a fool about himself. On the other hand, the beauty, the beloved of the protagonist, who clearly belongs to the highest caste, but who loves him anxiously and tenderly, not paying attention to his cove. She is graceful and aristocratic, her outfits can rightfully be called classics of women's fashion, but at the same time, she is not alien to the hunt for a murderer and adventure. She is also fascinated by this espionage for neighbors, and she is not averse to taking part not only in the observation, but also in the action itself, to personally look for evidence. In short, nothing human is alien to her. However, unlike the hero, she, as a woman, does not even try to look for logic, she is firmly and without thoroughly convinced that she is right. And the third side is the neighbors themselves, who create an atmosphere of family and comfort. And even if a lonely lady decides to kill herself, she nevertheless finds salvation, in this case in music, and the ballerina at the end to reunite with her beloved, whom under ordinary circumstances would not want to know. In short, a complete "happy ending", oh, how good a quiet family life is.

From a technical point of view, the film is incomparable. Yard decorations. Camera work. It seems that the film was shot in Hitchcock's head, and then transferred to film. Well, it's just that all this is so composed and beautiful that one can only admire the director's ideas and ideas.

The actors, first of all, I mean the main character and his girlfriend, played great. James Stewart and Grace Kelly create a wonderful acting duet, which is perfectly added by a brilliantly played killer, at the same time pathetic and terrible, and the whole crowd in general.

Conclusion: Cinema with a capital letter. A movie that will never be again. Many will strive for it, copy, but no one will ever surpass this ingenious monument of cinema, which will delight true connoisseurs of art for many years to come.
