This film without exaggeration can be called the best creation of the deserved master of cinematography - Ridley Scott (a sort of his "swan song"). Yes, we can distinguish in this genre and its other quality projects, for example, "The Kingdom of Heaven" or "Robin Hood"; but still in "Gladiator" Ultra HD -a, it seems to me, he "put more soul" (whatever it may sound), and the result on the face. I hope that I'm wrong about the swan song, and this director will still create a film of the same level, but for now, alas ...

For the first time I got acquainted with this film in my childhood, and even then he made a great impression on me (which was very rare). But then I saw this "masterpiece of cinema" only in one plane, namely as a historical thriller. Reasonings and dialogues of heroes, I missed the ears and, like almost all children, I enjoyed a delightful picture.

Now I'm just amazed at how many genres this film combines. Besides the fact that this is an excellent action movie with perfectly set and shown battle scenes and a historical narrative (despite some distortions of the facts); also this film is very dramatic. After all, the whole film is simply saturated with philosophical reflections, dialogues, ideas and conclusions, which in the process of understanding reveal the characters of the main characters. In addition, the film is quite dynamic.

If we consider the actor's play in the film, then it's hard to even imagine the selection of the game itself. All the actors were very persuasive. One can not help but highlight Russell Crowe (Maximus), who coped with the role as if he had been preparing for it all his life. I believe that this role for this actor is the best in his career. You can also highlight his game, as a genius in the movie "Mind Games", but he associates me, first of all, with the film "Gladiator" UHD. Also it is impossible not to mention the game of Joaquin Phoenix, for which she (role) also, in my opinion, is key in her career. It has never happened to me that I was watching the "villain" from the first to the last minute (apart from the main character), and not just watching, but trying to understand his character and empathizing in some moments. The actor simply got used to the role and, thanks to this, was able to present such a complex character, combining qualities such as: mind, insanity, greed, cunning, cruelty, pride, etc., so qualitatively.

As for the atmosphere of the film, it is very spectacular and majestic was shown the Roman Empire - one of the greatest and most powerful states in the history of mankind. Very realistic scenery (gardens, streets, marble rooms), heroes' costumes, beautiful foreshortenings (in particular the Coliseum), and some presence of computer graphics - all this looks very plausible and plunges the viewer into the arena of the Colosseum.

The music in the movie is just great. After all, musical accompaniment in any film is one of the main components. Even if you do not see the picture and do not listen to the speech of the characters, only music (melody) can be understood and represented the mood of the moment (tragedy, cheerfulness, playfulness, mystery, horror, etc.). A film without musical accompaniment will be difficult to understand. In this film, the main soundtrack very clearly conveys the basic mood of what is happening. As for the rest of the tunes, he noticed identical (though perhaps just similar) notes in music in such different films as "Gladiator" drama 4k movie, "Rock", "Pirates of the Caribbean", the composer in which was Hans Zimmer. All the same, he is also "cyclical" to some extent.
