Manon was 8 years old when her hunchback father died without finding water on his land. The farm is cheaply cleaned up by the Subeiran family, who once purposely dammed the spring. Ten years later, Manon, living secluded in the mountains, learns the truth and decides to take revenge.

Thinking over the question of the necessity and justification of dividing the seemingly unified plot and script space into two independent projects, although connected by many technical threads, one gradually comes to the opinion that this theory has its right to life. Taking a logical and temporal beginning in the movie “Jean de Florette”, the sequel saturates the atmosphere with the anticipation of the desired and expected, like a second portion of true enjoyment of good and expensive wine!

The story of greed, self-interest, envy and crime, multiplied by personal ambition and desire for the good of others, in the second part turns in its opposite course. The instructiveness and truthfulness of unchangeable life and human principles, embodied in a multitude of examples, proverbs and parables, once again, and here this line is held almost in mirror image, reminds and clearly shows the viewer that for all their mistakes, sins and crimes sooner or later still have to pay! And this payment, as a rule, becomes even more expensive than the original sin!

In the village where the action of the first part took place, several years have passed. Some of the main characters have aged even more, some have grown up... and some have blossomed like a May flower under the rays of the spring sun, making love... love? No, what settled in the soul of Yugolin, at the sight of the young and innocent shepherdess Manon, can not be fully called this high and pure feeling. It is rather more like the consuming and stupefying passion of a hungry beast at the sight of a defenseless and wild goat in a summer meadow. A passion that can... no - not lift, but toss high up, with the subsequent inevitable fall, without any real chance, intoxicating and wild, hidden and... cruel - forcing to do rash things, and, in the end, burning him to the ground!

The main cast, represented by the brilliant and inimitable Yves Montand and Daniel Otoya, who recreated in the first part bright and memorable images, invariably remained here, supplemented and embellished by the charming Emmanuelle Béart, at the height of her artistic career, whose image of the hunchback Jean's daughter, wounded by the events she saw and experienced in her childhood, is wonderfully integrated not only in the movie itself, but also in the beautiful and craggy mountain landscapes on which she glides deftly and quickly, confidently retracing her steps. Buried resentment and life torn out of childhood, universal and eye-opening thirst for revenge and redemption, to all those whom pride and greed did not allow to tell the truth, defeating only himself!

Very intense in psychological, and very frank in emotional terms movie! Actions, replacing each other, go their rapid course, bringing the inevitable finale. The chain of events, revelations, disclosures, repentance and redemption, it seemed already, can end with a good and romantically-minded finale, but it is almost impossible to stop the heroes in their deep repentance... And realizing that the final part of the movie in emotional terms is very strong, there is little doubt that it will leave behind positive emotions, multiplied by personal faith and belief that good will still defeat evil!

And coming back to the theory of comparing the creations of French filmmakers with the products of local winemakers, I would like to say - it is not necessary to be a professional taster and connoisseur of real perennial wines to make this “drink” seem and feel surprisingly light and almost individual, created according to a special recipe and not similar to others, a little “shaky” and naive, but tart and strong enough to want to drink it more than once!
