The Yankee Pedlar Inn is one of the oldest hotels and is on the verge of closing. Claire and Luke are the last employees who are bored most of the time and make up their own entertainment. There is a legend that the hotel is haunted, so Claire and Luke decide to solve their mystery.

To appreciate this film, it is enough to be familiar with one of Ti West's most interesting and successful projects, The Devil's Rejects. The Innkeepers features the same filming style, the heroine's general idleness, and an uneventful plot. Throughout the film, West diligently prepares his audience for a shocking ending that disappears as quickly as it appears. This is his trademark, to some extent his own signature on the work—a ruthless act for lovers of action and lightning-fast plot development. The entire film proceeds at a very steady pace, with virtually no sign of variety or innovation, until West adds low notes of horror, bringing the atmosphere to a climax. And if the viewer tunes in to the session and doesn't glance at their watch every ten minutes, wishing for the plot to develop more quickly, the director's signature technique will not be long in coming.
