Story Movie

16-year-old Alice Palmer drowns while swimming near a local dam. The police conclude that it was an accident, and her family buries her body. But soon, her inconsolable parents begin to sense a strange presence in the house and hear noises coming from the deceased girl's room.

Review 4K Movie

This is a pseudo-documentary film shot as an investigation. The plot unfolds sequentially, allowing the tension to build gradually, so that the film creates a rather creepy atmosphere. However, it is worth noting that this film is not a horror movie, but rather a detective drama with elements of mysticism, so keep that in mind when choosing it to watch.

The plot centers on the story of an ordinary Australian family living in the town of Ararat (Victoria). Their daughter, 16-year-old Alice, drowns while swimming in the town reservoir. It is worth noting that she drowns in the Ararat reservoir, not in Lake Mungo, which has actually been completely dry for a long time and is located in a different state. The lake itself will also play a role, but that will be closer to the plot's denouement, so I won't spoil it. In general, just keep this fact in mind.

Anyway, the girl's body was found and, after identification, buried. But since then, the house where she lived has been haunted. Sounds come from her room, and family members see a dark silhouette in the darkness. In connection with this, Matthew (the brother of the deceased girl), who is fond of photography and videography, decides to capture everything that is happening on cameras placed throughout the house. The recordings of these cameras capture something unexpected that sheds light on some previously unknown events. Thus, we gradually learn more and more details.

It may sound boring, but in fact it turned out to be very exciting. Probably because I really like such mystical stories, especially those filmed in a pseudo-documentary style. Actually, I watch horror movies not so much to be scared, but for the sake of interesting and unusual plots. Personally, I found it very interesting to watch, and at times it was even a little creepy. Although the film is scary, it is primarily due to the oppressive atmosphere, not the ghosts. The ghosts themselves are also present here, but they do not suddenly appear on the screen, and they do not even rattle dishes or furniture, but are simply part of the plot development.

I would like to note the good acting and the rather atmospheric musical accompaniment, thanks to which the viewer is able to immerse themselves more deeply in the events. However, there are no murder or dismemberment scenes here, nor is there any dynamic plot development. So if you decide to watch this film, be prepared for a slow, measured narrative.

Overall, I liked the film. It could have used more horror elements, but it turned out well as it is.
