Review 4K Movie

“Circle and call,

Take off - fell.

Name to me

Carnival".

Like many others, I'm tired of the usual superhero movie, where exaggerated characters in colorful costumes epicly beat each other's faces. I guess I just got older and wiser, but more recently, about twenty years ago, I ran around everywhere in my mother’s tailored Batman costume. Since then, like Arthur Fleck, I had to experience a lot of pain and rethink a lot, therefore, various antiheroes and even villains cause more and more sympathy in me. This is because they are much closer to us, they are more real, they are not perfect, they, like many of us, have experienced a lot of pain, often the reason for their moral position. Another reason for sympathizing with the villains is that they are free, while ordinary people are constrained by the rules. Of course, rules are needed, but sometimes everyone wants to drop them and just be themselves.

Todd Phillips' Joker rethought the genre of movie comics. There is no action, no fights and chases - all the emphasis is on the inner world of the characters, and the action takes place in our reality without any superheroes with their superpowers. "Joker" is a film about you and me, that such a Joker lives in everyone. As a psychology buff, I really liked the film, partly because in the main character I saw myself, no doubt, like many others.

The main theme of the film is the lack of empathy, i.e., empathy. Most people are always easier to destroy than to create, and good just refers to creation. It is sad that even a simple smile without reason seems to many to be sacrilege, because according to the implanted absurd truth, every action must have a good reason, so that it does not seem stupid in the faces of others and, as a result, causes condemnation. Fear of criticism is one of the reasons for the lack of empathy.

So, the film shows us the realistic city of Gotham, mired in unemployment and the economic crisis, where the powers that be on the poor just do not care. Depressed by a hard life, people save on feelings, in addition to money, so that they have the moral strength to live on. Few of them understand that you just don’t need to be stingy with your feelings - a simple smile can lift your spirits, give you strength and make your life brighter. Scientific fact - a smile stimulates the production of endofrin, the hormone of happiness that boosts mood in the body. The secret to happiness is simple - smile! But, alas, a smile is a physical action, and the inhabitants of Gotham are too tired, but they are always able to demand something from others. They are on strike, demanding changes from the authorities, but they themselves are not able to just smile.

This is where Arthur Fleck comes on stage, a man no less exhausted and even lying in a psychiatric hospital, a man trying to change something, to give people joy and, if necessary, to stretch their faces with their hands in a smile. He works as a clown in a small office and dreams of becoming a stand-up comedian, like his idol Murray Franklin. Unlike others, Arthur is able to smile even through tears. Sometimes he doesn’t have the strength to smile himself, because he has to help himself already, fingers stretching his mouth in a smile.

Arthur Fleck is a joy that in the eyes of the environment is considered a disease, a deviation from the norm. More precisely, he is a parody of joy, because his laughter is a consequence of the disease. Downtrodden and lonely, Arthur lives on the creed instilled by his mother - "smile and make a happy face." Alas, his smile is sincere only when watching the show of his idol. Arthur Fleck, like others, is completely devastated and lives on the very brink. In his case, this line is a smile, and striving to turn into a smirk. And throughout the film, we just observe this terrible and very sad transformation.

Life hits Arthur again and again, often literally. A small, kind and unhappy clown, wishing people good from the bottom of his heart, slowly dies in him, desperately trying to shout to others. I know this: you ask for understanding and sympathy, which you can do, but others, in response, strive to prick harder, because they are parasites. Those who believe that asking for compassion is weakness and shame, just callous and callous villains who have closed their hearts so as not to feel pain. Such constitute the environment of Arthur Fleck, selfish and cruel, everyone thinking only of himself. The entire film, Arthur, like Holden Caulfield from the novel "The Catcher in the Rye" is still looking for those who will regret it. In the gloomy and cruel Gotham it is almost impossible. In the "City of Sins" Frank Miller and there were more kind people, because in the darkness of the city every glimpse of the light will not remain invisible.

I admit, I wanted to cry when Arthur Fleck died and the Joker was born. That unfortunate kind man with a sad smile, which he so sympathized with, was no longer there. He was replaced by an unshackled cynical and grinning villain, as if reflecting a Gotham. This is not a gangster, as in the 1989 film, not the brilliant terrorist Heath Ledger and certainly not the canonical Joker with an army of minions and a lot of equipment. The Joker of Joaquin Phoenix is any of us who have been broken by a society who is tired of enduring. The Joker laugh is a laugh from the joy of freedom. Freedom from everything. Joker Joaquin Phoenix is the brightest and deepest version of the legendary villain. In the case of the film, this is not a villain, but rather an anti-hero fighting against a true villain - the city of Gotham itself. The Joker does not care about power. All he wanted was to be noticed. Well, it is impossible not to notice who Arthur Fleck became.

I really hope that the Joker universe of Todd Phillips will be expanded, not only a continuation of the story of the Joker, but also stories of new - old characters.

In conclusion, I will say that the "Joker" of Todd Phillips brought me real benefit! I myself began to smile and laugh more often for no reason and, I tell you, this laugh therapy really helped me to become more relaxed, and my mood is always beautiful. Smile and make happy faces, even if February is in your soul, because a smile will quickly turn it into May!

And finally, in spite of the fact that the theme song of the film is Jackson C. Frank - My Name Is Carnival, thanks to one man whose VK post I saw, For me the main song about the Joker became Of monsters and men - Human, for me it’s so revealing the theme of mental throwings of Arthur Fleck.

“The air is silk, the shadows fold into a grin.

If I lose control, I will feed the monster that is hiding in me. ”
