The film "The Hourglass Sanatorium" is a journey to the afterlife and, at the same time, into the depths of the protagonist’s memory and imagination.

“The Sanatorium” is a sanctuary where people who have long since died live, and where long-lost or obsolete objects are kept.

It’s not the safest place for the person closest to him—his father. However, it’s the only dimension where he is alive. The place is both beautiful and eerie.

It’s worth noting the stunning and meticulously designed sets, which create a phantasmagorical atmosphere of Gothic surrealism.

The atmosphere of a dream or delirium is beautifully recreated, where locations flow into one another, people change faces, and when you try to look closely at an object, it instantly loses its shape.

What happens to our loved ones when they die, to our cherished possessions when they disappear or break, and to the places dear to our hearts that we can never visit again?

They end up in a similar “Sanatorium” within our memory, where, on the one hand, they are frozen forever, and on the other, they become overgrown with fantastical details and our unfulfilled dreams.

In this world, a postage stamp can transport us to countries we’ve never visited, yet which we imagined so vividly in our childhood.

The protagonist embarks on a one-way journey, plunging into the depths of his own memory. He watches as the images of the people living in his memories gradually fade and lose their power (for all memories gradually fade away).

And then he himself becomes just such a shadow, having ventured too far down the dusty corridors of the “Sanatorium.”
