The picture of the legendary Francis Ford Coppola is not as well known to the average viewer as the cult “Apocalypse Now” or “The Godfather”, but still this crime drama about the eternal confrontation between the rich and the poor, shown on the example of two opposing groups “Dudes” and “Gryaznul” ( well respected Gavrilov translated it) also won the love and sympathy of the public.

Showing this confrontation, Coppola says that among those and others there are normal guys, just life has divided them according to property. Young people from the rich drive around in expensive parental cars, and from the poor they travel by bus and wander the streets, thinking about what to do. Putting more emphasis on portraying the lives of guys from poor neighborhoods, the director shows us a plot that is simple enough for perception, but very believable and real, showing that there is really a lot of good in the world, they just do not notice it.

Not least of all due to the scattering of still very young and unknown, but talented actors, gathered under the wing of the master from Matt Dillon to Tom Cruise, “Outcasts” is a pretty good life drama.

Coppola, as an experienced connoisseur of his craft, seems to have seen the prospect in advance in young actors who play really great. Especially it is worth to thank the director for inviting the then completely unknown Patrick Swayze. It was after this film that the young dancer was noticed and recognized as a cool actor.
