Four Springwood teenagers have the same nightmarish dream in which a man with a burnt face wearing a hat and knives on his arm chases them and tries to kill them. When the high school girl's best friend Nancy dies a horrible death in her sleep, the girl realizes that the creepy type got to her and he won't stop there. Trying to figure out how to confront him, Nancy tries her best to stay awake.

Who doesn't know Freddy Krueger? Everybody knows Freddy Krueger. The most popular movie maniac of all time made it to my eyes and he did not disappoint. I thought that after watching the first movie, I would safely write a movie review and forget about the movie, but I was sorely mistaken. After watching 'Nightmare on Elm Street', I realized that I would not be limited to one movie and the review would have to wait. I waited for quite a long period of time, then forgot, then remembered and forgot about Freddy again. But then one day, going to the store, I saw a collector's edition of all 7 parts in a gorgeous box, with a book as a gift.... I couldn't resist, I bought it and watched all the movies in 2 days. But about each movie in order, I'll start with the first one.

Wes Craven has never once disappointed me, this movie simply could not be an exception. If only for the reason that it's already a legend, besides it's Johnny Depp's debut. The script for 'Nightmare' was written back in 1981, but no studio was interested in the project at the time. Craven waited patiently, and then a studio was found - New Line Cinema, which is still producers call the house built by Freddy, because the movie brought good profits and spawned a number of sequels (from excellent to disgusting).

The first movie tells us about a girl, Nancy, and her boyfriend, Glenn, who escape a maniac who comes after them when they are asleep. Teenagers are afraid to go to bed, but no one believes that the most real infanticide is after them. Slasher fans have been asking for more from horror movie makers, and those in turn have been giving them new blood. But here he comes. Freddy Krueger, a maniac who appeared in dreams and killed people there. The plot was still unexploited, new..... The crowd cheered.

Krueger's first appearance (in Tina's dream) is still considered the scariest moment in movie history. Of course, nowadays it doesn't look scary anymore, but it's very creepy. 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' is frightening with its unique style, its atmosphere. Here we rarely see Krueger, but when he appears, we feel unprotected, and we are simultaneously pleased to see him on the screen. As 'Saw' director and one of Freddy Krueger's biggest fans, James Wan, rightly pointed out, “In the following films, the creators concentrated on Freddy's image and he became just not scary. Here, however, we see the very first and scariest Freddy Krueger, and it's beautiful. Enjoy him.

What's also entertaining is the fact that Freddy's character was created. Wes wrote him completely out of life. He pieced together reality and created a dream. Freddy Krueger was the name of the kid who constantly bullied Craven at school. Disfigured homeless man, who frightened the director as a child, served as a prototype for the appearance of a maniac. And the story of teenagers dying in their sleep, in reality happened to a group of students who were afraid to go to bed. Another plus for Freddy is that he is real, and thus close to us.

The last thing I want to talk about is Robert England. After watching this whole series of films, I realized that Ingland became close to me not only as Krueger, but also as an actor, a performer of the image. Now I know for sure that no one will play Freddy better than Ingland. At the moment are shooting a remake of this movie with Jackie Earle Haley as Krueger. Whether he is suitable for the role of a murderous blabbermouth, time will tell, we can only wish him luck. But one thing is for sure. No one will play Freddy Krueger better than Robert England.
