Story Movie

Alligator 4K 1980 Ultra HD 2160p
The baby alligator was flushed down the toilet and found its way into the underground sewer system. Feeding on the bodies of animals that had been hormonally experimented on, it grew to enormous size. Next in its diet were the people of Chicago.

Review 4K Movie

Made with a deliberate and obvious curtsey in favor of Spielberg's Jaws, this film turns out to be much more filled with cause-and-effect connections. In Spielberg's reality, the deadly threat from the giant shark was entirely accidental, it appeared out of nowhere and went there as well. But the alligator, a terrible monster living in the sewers, has a much more elaborate backstory. Hysterical father, romantic girl, conniving mother - as a result, a little crocodile bought for fun (and they were smaller than a hamster in childhood) ends up down the drain. That's where it, nurtured with chemicals, will grow into a real monster. The 80s were just beginning and the ecological subtext was still very relevant - nowadays it surprises no one, everything is obviously implied.

Soon enough, our reptile begins to strike fear into the inhabitants of the whole town. It will start with the technicians eating in the sewers, and soon our hero will start coming out. Each of the exits will be accompanied by the eating of civilians, which means that the police need to step in. The self-righteous crocodile fighter hired by the mayor, played by Henry Silva, will prove to be more of a comic support. But the balding policeman who regularly loses partners will apply maximum pressure and ingenuity. Robert Forster's character will have four times in the movie to justify his baldness, but it does not once weaken his charisma. There is a nerve in the actor, stretched like a bowstring, which greatly enhances this entertaining movie.

The film benefits greatly from the fact that the alligator himself is done very naturalistically. One of his final passages succeeds handsomely. And there is no overkill in the creature's atrocities - it's just so big that it eats people alive. A ton of ketchup isn't going to spill here. As a conclusion - a very coherent and solid movie, released not long before Larry Cohen's 'Q', which is similar and hardly a reference for me.
