Story Movie

Earth faces an imminent collision with a comet that will lead to the death of all life. The President of the United States informs the world that a year remains before the "collision with the abyss". The "Messiah" ship is sent to the comet to blow up the comet. But the explosion splits the comet in two. Nothing can save humanity. How will people behave?

It's really a very good movie! A lot of people compare it to 'Armageddon', and personally I lean more towards 'Facing the Abyss' in this debate, as the emphasis here is on the feelings of people facing mortal danger. I find it much more interesting than watching a bunch of American heroes save the world... (I am by no means saying that 'Armageddon' is bad, on the contrary, it is one of my favorite movies).

Aside from the storyline, 'Encountering Abyss' boasts some pretty good special effects and a very decent cast.

I suggest that we take a closer look at the latter. I think Tia Leon and Maxemillan Shell, and Morgan Freeman looked great as the president of the United States. Elijah Wood I never really liked, and in this movie, I think he did not shine, but his character is not bad. The relationship between Tia Leoni's character and her father made the biggest impression on me, for some reason this was the line that really stuck with me... I'll never forget how they stood hugging at the very end.

To sum it up, I'd say this movie is a fantastic combination of a sci-fi action/thriller and a very decent drama, I'm not sure everyone will like it as much as I do, but you should watch it at least once.
