Big Nick is the head of an elite unit of the LAPD - proving every day that his team is tougher than the men they hunt. When the cop learns that a legendary and elusive thief is planning a daring robbery of the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States, he decides to thwart it any way he can. This is a rare example of a good strong action movie in the spirit of the late 90s, but with modern picture and realities. It has a good enough play of almost all actors, perfectly chosen types and practically nothing superfluous. It is watched in one breath - this is an indicator of a well-built balanced narrative. Shootout scenes are just great.

The movie is almost a perfect representative of the genre.

However, for some reason it remained as if greatly underestimated by the public and attention. Although in terms of quality it will beat 60% of everything that comes out in the movie even now, in 2020.

That's a big barrel of honey.

But it's not without a huge spoonful of honey.

And that spoon is the script. The screenwriter's confused about genres. First, he filmed City of Thieves and everything went well, then he decided to add The Clash and everyone froze, watching the characters... but then apparently he decided “I'll make Ocean's 11 or Charlie's Angels or something like that!”...!

And the whole ending of the movie just drained, turning the story from an action movie about tough men-gangsters with a pretension to realism into a pathetic semblance of a stylish movie story about a trickster-robber with a multi-plot.

You know, when I wanted to add a Suspicious Faces-style ending, but it felt like something on the level of {Catherine Zeta Jones steals paintings while doing stylish somersaults under the ceiling}. That's what it felt like to me.

If this movie added a finale adequate to the genre, open and vital - this movie, without exaggeration would be the best for the last 10 years in this genre. And a good sequel could be made.

Of course there's a lot of silliness in there, and there's some frankly illogical stuff.

And I was also puzzled by a few scenes that were very different in the trailers from the movie itself, and even in the full version they weren't there.

Special homage to the soundtrack: Cliff Martinez I remember from Solaris. The man perfectly felt what the sound accompanying the events should be like, and he just hit the mark.
