Story Movie

Small black criminals dared to commit a brazen crime: they stole 300 thousand dollars from an Italian gangster and are now on the run. Two policemen take up the case - a corrupt cop and his young black partner. Only one question remains, who will be the first to get to the thieves: the servants of the law or the mafia.

Review 4K Movie

This film was released during the total domination of 'Serpico' and blaxpoitation, so stylistically it is imbued with that very cinematic flavor of the 'mean streets' of the early 70s. The proposed universe includes a large city with numerous skyscrapers and poor neighborhoods, as well as an administrative division of everything into small districts. Each such small neighborhood has its own 'important' and 'respected' people. Nothing gets decided without them. Sometimes they are policemen and sometimes they are just passers-by. Everything is calm and orderly in this system. The rich get richer, the poor have a humble existence. Modest rebellions are only necessary to maintain the status quo - the rebels are dealt with particularly severely.

The intrigue in this film is inferior to the description of the place of action. It is not interesting to watch how a few silly thieves 'stole' from a respected man and are now actually sentenced. Nor is it interesting to realize that the executors of the decision will be two policemen - a corrupt one and a fundamentally honest one. No, right, all this has already slipped in the movie one way or another and earlier. And where are the heroes? This isn't 'In the Harbor', and there's no Marlon Brando.

This means that the story will be about bad guys and more bad guys. Avoiding direct assessments we will be literally injected with an atmosphere of arbitrariness, impunity and total criminality. Almost like in Damiani's movies or typical Russian crime films of the early and mid-nineties. Expressive and incredibly talented Yaphette Cotto and Anthony Quinn, of course, will pull the tape to a more or less decent level. These guys just could not play badly.

However, the movie does not carry in itself except for their participation nothing special. Social subtext - there is no surprise, because in those years, a lot of movies were made on similar themes. There is no special plot or stylistic sophistication. And it is not interesting to watch this movie. With such a leading duo of actors, it was necessary to light real fireworks, and not moodily chase trends.
