Review 4K Movie

“Thunderbolts” turned out to be not just another superhero blockbuster, but something much more human and captivating. And yes, this is probably Marvel's best project in recent years, because there are no endless fights and empty action, but there are living characters with baggage from the past who really make you empathize with them.

I was expecting something along the lines of Suicide Squad — dark humor and crazy dynamics. But no, this is much more subtle. The dialogue isn't just chatter between shootouts, but real revelations from people who are tired of the crap in their lives. This is especially cool with Florence Pugh (Elena Belova) — she's not just a killing machine, but a person who's really messed up by her past. Her emotions, sarcasm, and attempts to escape this hell are masterfully played, without overacting.

Bucky here is not the broken Winter Soldier from Civil War, nor is he the fierce avenger from The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. He has already lived through his pain, worked through it (thanks to therapy and Sam), and now he's just... living. But not like a normal person, but like a veteran who has learned to carry his burden in silence. His imperturbability is not armor, but fatigue. And in this lies the genius of Sebastian Stan's performance.

David Harbour steals every scene he's in. His Alex is not just “Captain America,” but a real bear. He's loud, rude, but damn charming, and that's the whole paradox: he fits perfectly into a team of outsiders because he himself is forever an outsider. His cheerfulness and attitude are so endearing, the way he fits into the action, a real warrior who is tired of sitting around with a bottle of vodka, reminiscing about his early victories and successes as if they mattered at all. It's cool that Elena constantly calls him dad, and the Guardian really tries to be a caring father, and you can see it in every decision he makes, even though he doesn't control anything at all.

The Ghost is a quiet but deadly shadow. She doesn't say much, but her silence isn't a character flaw, it's just how she is. She's not a sociopath, she's just... a ghost.

Wyatt Russell showed that his John Walker is not just a bad Captain America, but a complex, tragic character. He wants to be a hero, but he can't because the army broke him, making him painfully practical. At least, that's how it seemed to me, based on my understanding of the difficulties of life for veterans.

I'm very impressed by the film, and I would probably talk about each character involved, but the fact is, you just have to go and see it to understand that this isn't a typical Marvel movie with chases and explosions, but something much deeper. The ending is the moment when all these broken people finally understand who they are. And that's way cooler than any action movie.

“Thunderbolts” is not a movie about superheroes. It's about people who have been through hell but didn't give up. And if Marvel continues in the same vein, I'll continue to follow their (multi?) universe.
