Story Movie

In the 1990s Sonny Hayes was a rising star in Formula 1, but after a serious accident he retired from the sport. 30 years later, Sonny lives in a trailer and earns money by participating in various races and championships. One day he is approached by an old friend Ruben Cervantes, also a former racer and now the owner of an outsider racing team, with a request to join them as a co-pilot and mentor for a promising young rookie.

Review 4K Movie

Let me start by saying that I have never watched Formula 1 on purpose and am not familiar with racing in general, so I don't know how suitable this film will be for experts on the subject. So close the window, there will be no stuffiness. Closed? Now let's get down to business.

What did I know when I went to see the film?

1 - It has a clichéd and very simple plot.

2 - The races are well filmed.

3 - Excellent soundtrack by the genius Hans Zimmer.

Let's break down each point separately:

1. The film does indeed have a simple and rather clichéd plot. Once again, a man who has left the business is persuaded to return to it, how original and unexpected. And this same man will have to do the impossible and pull a team that no one believes in out of the depths. Yes, it's clear, it's a typical Hollywood plot.

BUT! The devil is in the details. Using this typical Hollywood plot as a base, the writers managed to cook up an incredibly touching and sincere soup! The film has a clichéd plot outline. Most of the characters' dialogues and lines are original and very well written, although moments of revelation such as “when I drive 300 km per hour, everything around me slows down and I feel like I'm flying” still hint at a dream, but we've seen that before! The plot is also carried by excellent acting. Brad Pitt is as good and charming as ever, playing what he does best—a daring, reckless cowboy who breaks the rules. And I must say that with Brad Pitt's charisma, such characters acquire a special charm, they attract attention and, despite their stubbornness, are incredibly warm-hearted people. I would also like to mention Javier Bardem separately. I wish everyone had a boss like him. He played a 200 out of 20 man who is passionate about his work and is constantly on the verge of a heart attack from his overwhelming emotions. An incredibly sincere role! The other characters are also appropriate and do not cause rejection, but they pale in comparison to this duo. Only Idris Elba stands out with his incredibly stylish looks; he should definitely consider a career in modeling.

The plot of the film is simple, but very heartfelt and emotionally moving. When Brad Pitt appeared on screen towards the end of the film, walking towards the team to the accompaniment of touching music, I cried.

2 - Yes, the races are filmed brilliantly in the film. In fact, everything is filmed brilliantly; the camera work and editing are phenomenal. Occasionally, I didn't quite understand what was happening because of the speed of the events, but the authors took care of that, with the characters narrating what was happening on the track. By the way, this is also done through the commentators, of whom there are always two, one of whom is a real football commentator. Kudos to the dubbing artists for bringing him in. Kosinski (the director) constantly uses different camera angles, including first-person shots, and all of this changes very dynamically in combination with general shots, the work of the team (which is shown here very realistically, with high technologies that Ford vs. Ferrari could only dream of), the faces of the drivers and their cars. The result is a very dynamic, modern, and stylish picture that is a pleasure to watch.

3 - Yes, the film has a great soundtrack by Hans Zimmer. But I wouldn't say that he did any incredible (for me) work. Throughout the film, Zimmer plays one memorable main theme, which I listened to before going to the cinema. It's okay, but nothing supernatural. However, I would like to praise the music in the film in general, the songs. There's rap and rock from the 20th century, modern house and Latin American rhythms. Even when I was listening to the film's album on Spotify, I was blown away by the selection of compositions. Unfortunately, not all of them made it into the final film, which is a bit of a shame. But the music definitely deserves respect, it looks very cool, and the film knows how to use silence or near silence to create the desired effect of tension or peace.

What do we get in the end? I think the film turned out exactly as it should be. A simple, heartfelt racing adventure with excellent acting, fashionable, modern, and stylish visuals (as well as costumes that the characters wear, which are simply stunning), and perfectly selected music. Perhaps racing experts will not be impressed, but ordinary people looking for a good movie to watch can confidently buy tickets for the evening; you will not regret it.
