"The best shooter" is also a 100% American air action movie, which, probably, will remain the very first, so successful film about pilot aces, which were performed by very young Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer here. And a good melodrama with talented actors. In addition, this is one of the most “friendly” films directed by Tony Scott, who in the 90s already completely switched to gloomy, but extremely bright thriller action films. And their second joint work with Cruise, “Days of Thunder,” is very similar to “Top Gun,” only all the action takes place on earth. Here, a lot of time is devoted to the most beautiful, masterfully set scenes in the air, showing the F-14 under the excellent, unforgettable soundtrack of several composers at once.

Last but not least, it was thanks to them that this film never seemed boring or uninteresting during the time of viewing, although in fact the creators did not come up with anything ordinary. Hollywood once again made a pure entertaining movie, but the product is of very high quality, since the producers were Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer. These names speak for themselves, and the participation of Tom Cruise, who in the 86th was not yet a superstar and a favorite of the American public, only partially makes the “Best shooter” a unique combination of melodrama and air action movie. From the point of view of the male audience, the participation of the extremely attractive Kelly Mac Gillis is more conducive to the success of the first component, but for the female, there are, respectively, Cruz and Kilmer.

The script is very good - the main character Pete Mitchell, a pilot from God who is hindered in the air by only one thing - memories of his father, and partly the fact that Maverick (his nickname is here) is a very freedom-loving guy and lives by the call of his heart, and not mind. It does not matter that he controls an expensive fighter and someone’s life depends on his behavior in the air, all the same, the gift of a brilliant pilot comes from within, and the only thing he needs to do is to reconcile with his thoughts, with himself. A very spectacular final “duel” in the air has been added to the internal struggle of the protagonist, which makes it possible to partially name the “Best shooter” as an air fighter. However, the melodrama has plenty of time. And there are enough celebrities - Meg Ryan, Michael Ironside, Tom Skerrit, Tim Robbins.

If you want romance and charm of films of the 80s with actors, "stars", this film is one of the best candidates. There is something in him that makes him reconsider, even if Tom Cruise here is more like a cute boy whom Val Kilmer is able to replay in every second frame. But in the end, the rivalry between Kazansky and Mitchell will develop into male friendships, and this moment is always very well and beautifully presented in Hollywood movies. Instructor Charlotte Blackwood is incomparable here, not even from the point of view of visual beauty, but from the relationship with the self-confident, but slightly confused Maverick. Their melodrama was very beautifully beaten against the backdrop of powerful fighters in the sky. Apparently, this is the case when the already very strong components of the film together give an outstanding result.

In my opinion - an immortal combination of melodrama and air action, in which absolutely everything is beautiful!
