The Peterson family recently lost their son Caleb to the war in Afghanistan and still mourn him. Suddenly, a previously unknown guy David appears on the threshold of their house, who claims that he is an army friend of their son, and arrived, thereby fulfilling his last will. Caleb's family is delighted to welcome David, but shortly after the guest arrives in the neighborhood, a series of deaths occurs.

After participating in the creation of the cycle-almanacs "The ABC of Death" and "EVIL", as well as filming the already cult slasher "You are finished!" When working on The Guest, he paid more attention to the style and atmosphere, and as a result we got a wonderful representative of the action movie genre.

One of the reasons why this film is worth paying attention to is its leading British-born actor Dan Stevens, who has not worked in a similar genre before (the series "Downton Abbey"). In The Guest, he flawlessly portrayed the stranger David - at first glance, very sweet, courteous and deeply interested in rendering any assistance to the family of his army comrade who died in Afghanistan. However, at a certain point, he rips off the mask of virtue and turns out to be a deadly, cold-blooded, calculating and cunning killer.

Of the rest of the actors, it is worth noting the young actress Mike Monroe (It). Against the background of colorful Stevens, she is somewhat obscured and lost, however, in general, she coped very well with the role assigned to her.

The plot of the film is not enough stars from the sky and does not try to be clever. This is a tense action-packed movie, somewhere similar in plot to "Universal Soldier" and "Stepfather", and in some places stylistically reminiscent of "Drive" by Nicholas Winding Refn. The narrative is gaining momentum rather quickly and does not let the viewer go until the final credits, unexpectedly and cleverly changing genres in the course of the action.

Also "Guest" has a simply mind-blowing soundtrack, carefully selected by Steve Moore, for whom this is just the second full-fledged project. Among the large number of worthy tracks, such stunning compositions as Annie - Anthonio, F.O.O.L. - SaharA, Survive - Omniverse and Love and Rockets - Haunted When the Minutes Drag.

Excellent work by cinematographer Robert Baumgartner. Thanks to her, the film turned out to be a very juicy picture. It was filmed in the style of action movies of the 80-90s.

In the course of the narrative, it is easy to find a number of plot blunders and holes, illogical behavior of the characters and the lack of answers to some questions, but all this does not play a significant role and many inaccuracies can be ignored.

The film does not bring anything new to the thriller genre, but takes on a dashing shape and beautiful thick neon style, and over time, it is quite possible that it will acquire a cult status by right.
