Review 4K Movie
Writing reviews for Quentin Tarantino's films is very difficult - after all, this is almost a separate genre of cinema. But I have long planned to write a review on Inglourious Basterds. Because the film has certainly become a cult in 12 years. Plus, it's pretty exciting to see what Tarantino came up with on the subject of World War II ...
1944 year. World War II is in full swing. On the territory of occupied France, a detachment of Americans under the leadership of Aldo Reyna is operating, who brutally kill and scalp the Nazis with the aim of revenge, intimidation and demoralization of the fighting spirit. This squad is called the Bastards. They are tasked with destroying the German command during the premiere of a propaganda film at the cinema of Shoshanna Dreyfus, a fugitive Jewish woman who herself plans to take revenge for the suffering of her family and her people. At the same time, the charismatic and ruthless Standartenführer Hans Landa, nicknamed the "Hunter of the Jews", is on her heels. All storylines will intersect independently in the cinema ...
Anyone who loves Quentin Tarantino's films will undoubtedly be captured by the plot. Because according to the plots Tarantino is a recognized master. Once again, you are convinced how well everything is thought out, worked out and interconnected. And also - bright, spectacular and exciting. The use of foreign languages is also interesting - when viewed in the original, you can hear speech in almost all languages of Europe. Here for the first time a director uses the genre of alternative history - I was completely unprepared for it, but he made a powerful impression!
But the plot is one thing. His directing is the next part of his genius. Although the film lasts more than 2.5 hours, time flies by instantly. And not because the action is dynamic. On the contrary, there are many scenes that are long and viscous, which we watch with bated breath - these are long interrogations between heroes and villains, in particular, behind an apple strudel, as well as a tense scene of a game in a pub, where sometimes you are afraid to move once more ... And staying true to himself and his style of shooting - Tarantino includes a lot of spectacular brawls, fights, stabbing, shootings and with a huge amount of blood! And you must admit that not in every film this technique will work, but in Tarantino's cinema - it works flawlessly every time!
The heroes in every Tarantino film are spectacular, characteristic, charismatic (and not only heroes, but also villains). Aldo Rain or Aldo Apache (Brad Pitt) - the leader of the Bastards, who was given the task of killing the Nazis - which he performs with great pleasure, if he is given a new task, then he will complete it, do not even hesitate. His squad is no less spectacular and motley: the Jew Donnie Donowitz (Eli Roth), who follows in the footsteps of the Nazis for the sake of the Jewish people, the German Hugo Stieglitz (Til Schweiger), who was in prison for the murder of the Gestapo, and soon they were joined by the Englishman Archie Hickox (Michael Fassbender), fluent in German, but not German gestures, and German actress and double agent Bridget von Hammersmark (Diane Kruger).
However, I liked the heroes of the second storyline even more: Shoshanna Dreyfus (Melanie Laurent), a Jewish girl who miraculously escaped the brutal reprisal, under the name Emmanuel, runs a cinema in which German propaganda wants to stage a movie premiere. With the filing of their war hero and at the same time the actor who played himself in the film - Frederic Zoller (Daniel Brühl), who is clearly not indifferent to Emmanuel / Shoshanna, who, in turn, has big plans for this film premiere.
And now about the brightest hero of the picture - this is Hans Landa. Sometimes you look at him, at his gallant manner of communication, amiable smile and chic charisma, you can involuntarily forget about his nickname - the Hunter of Jews, the name speaks for itself - and about his crimes. It even seems that he knows all the secrets of the heroes, but also it is impossible to predict his actions. Which makes him the most memorable character in the film. Thanks to this role, we discovered a gorgeous actor - Christoph Waltz, who received all kinds of well-deserved awards for his role, and now in each new film creating magnificent images!
Inglourious Basterds is one of Quentin Tarantino's masterpieces, filming it in his own unique style with powerful dialogues, charismatic heroes and villains, an unpredictable plot, carefully selected music (the scene under David Bowie's Cat People is especially good) and shootouts with rivers of blood. Tarantino fans will surely be delighted. As for the rest, it's hard to say. At your discretion.
