Dune: Part One 4K 2021 Ultra HD 2160p
The heir to the famous house of Atreides, Paul, goes with his family to one of the most dangerous planets in the Universe - Arrakis. There is nothing here but sand, a scorching sun, giant monsters and the main cause of intergalactic conflicts - an incredibly valuable resource called melange. As a result of the seizure of power, Paul is forced to run and hide, and this becomes the beginning of his epic journey. The hostile world of Arrakis has prepared many difficult trials for him, but only those who are ready to face their fear in the eyes are worthy of becoming the chosen one.

Review 4K Movie

So a new film by Denis Villeneuve was released. A screen version of the cult book by Frank Herbert Dune. There is no point in describing the plot, the book is over 60 years old. Therefore, let's talk about the main differences that Villeneuve had to go to for the film adaptation, which he really wanted to shoot, and the comparison with the failed version of Lynch in '84.

Firstly, a very crumpled beginning, and the lore of Dune is extremely large Herbert described it in great detail and represented all the characters. Here, we walked through many of the characters rather superficially, but you immediately recognize that you understand the images and the main characteristics of the heroes. But he decided to put the main emphasis on Paul, that in fact the idea is correct, yet this is the main character of the work. Much is devoted to its development, from which part of the political intrigue, or a more detailed description of the Bene Gesserit, is hushed up. Of the characters, Dr. UE suffered the most, although in the same film adaptation of Lynch, he received more attention, as in the book, his sad fate.

Secondly, in the book itself, a lot of attention is paid to the thoughts of the heroes about themselves, in the same film adaptation of Lynch, he often let offscreen monologues in order to more clearly explain to the audience the thoughts of the characters. Villeneuve, on the other hand, tries more to show the thoughts of the heroes with images. In some scenes, for those who are familiar with the original source it will be good, for those who have not read it, there may be some misunderstanding. Otherwise, in terms of plot, this is an almost literal adaptation of the book. Yes, in some places Dani omits some details of the lore, giving basic concepts sufficient to present an interesting image among the general audience.

As for the cast, I can say one thing, he is the most worthy. There are no questions about the image of this or that hero, everyone plays well. And those heroes who were shown very little here are expected in the sequel (we keep our fists for decent fees). But not even the actors and the plot are the main plus of this particular version of Dune, but the visual and audio components.

Villeneuve pays a lot of attention to sound and picture in his films, they play a very important role in the storytelling and also the atmosphere of the picture. Here he only multiplied what he did in his last job, namely Blade Runner. Starting with the opening shots, the viewer is immediately carried away by the atmosphere of the upcoming epic plot. Plus, thanks to the image, it is easier to show the contrast of the planets. The same home planet of the Atreides and their worst enemies the Harkonenns, the average viewer immediately understands where good is where evil is. And the first arrival at Arrakis, after showing the beautiful fjords of Calladan, plays in great contrast. Moreover, if in the same runner, we were more amazed at the futuristic component, then here we are more imbued with nature. The sand dunes of Arrakis were not yet so beautiful and dangerous when you see the towering columns of sand from Shaykhulud on the horizon. In addition to the visuals, the style of costumes, buildings and techniques can be attributed, although they for the most part coincide with what was in the book.

The audio part is also not far behind. This time the composer was Hans Zimmer, who, like Denis Villeneuve, is a big fan of the original book. His motives only strengthen the atmosphere of the picture, and also play on the representation of the characters. The musical theme of the Atreides gives more old knightly notes, the same Fremen are more similar in melody to the Bedouins. But not even the soundtrack plays on the viewer's immersion, but the sound. The same sounds of approaching Shaykhulud, sounds of futuristic technology. And sometimes the skillful use of the complete absence of sound, to create even more tension in the viewer. I advise you to go to the session only in imax, for the sake of an even larger scale.

The main problem of the film adaptation of Dune. It has a huge scale, there are a huge number of events and characters in it, that no 2.5 hour film can even half convey it. Realizing this, Villeneuve deliberately breaks off the tape in the middle of the book. Therefore, you should not expect an abundance of action, and he himself is not given a strong accent in the film, he is very mundane, and in some places even crumpled. Therefore, I want to believe that the film will pay off at the box office, you can see how the entire creative team experienced great love and interest in the original book. So that we can see the end of this story.

Stylistically and technically perfect blockbuster, with great actors and a solid story.
