Told in a nutshell, the plot of The Return might seem like a routine entry in one of Spain's thousands of annual soap operas. The deceased mother of a poor Spanish family comes into the world to solve family problems, to talk sense into someone, to console someone. Slowly the ghost takes root among the living daughters and granddaughters, who feel no mystical terror toward Irene's mother. Everything at all resembles a comedy, and by the genre definition - and so it is directly! Perhaps only by placing himself in this epic scale of the tape, the viewer will understand that the coming of the spirit of the mother in the abandoned family is comparable almost to the descent of the Holy Spirit of the Comforter.

"The Return" is a purely feminine film, permeated with the problems of age, appearance, family life and the search for happiness. This, of course, makes it all the more interesting for men who claim to be true misogynists. A true man - such as, for example, Salinger's hero from "Catcher in the Rye," who liked to be where there were a lot of girls, even if they did nothing but powder their noses - so, a true fan of female charm, will appreciate Almodovar's new film "The Return".

Its title is symptomatic of the director's work: it is as if he is returning to his best times, his best creative experiments, starting with the somewhat biased and politicized "Bad Parenting", Pedro returns to the restless element of femininity, to its graceful philosophy and warm maternal atmosphere. And this return has been greeted with great enthusiasm by critics and audiences in Europe and America, where it has already premiered. "The Return" has already been recognized as one of Almodóvar's best films, the best role of Penelope Cruz and the beautiful trio of Penelope the beautiful, charming veteran of the Spanish screen Carmen Maura and the simple-minded, direct heroine Lola Dueñas. Not so long ago we saw her in the role of the loser Rosa, who fell in love with the bedridden invalid Ramon in philosophical and social drama of Alejandro Amenabar "The Sea Inside".
