The page with the hit domestic comedy of 2016, which received quite positive reviews from the majority, lists only one similar movie in a special column. This is the movie we will talk about - an American youth comedy of the late 90s, about which few people know, but perhaps in its homeland the film in its time progressed and, perhaps, was well bought on cassettes (at us it may not even have been on them, since there is no author's translation available, but only professional), and certainly went on the big screens, The popularity of the movie in the country where it was filmed is likely due to the fact that it became one of the objects for parody in the 2001 project 'Unchildren's Cinema', where more than a dozen films mostly on the theme of prom, love affairs between high school students and the race to choose the king and queen of the prom were parodied. And as a rule, only the hits of the genre are chosen for parody, and the movie 'Can't Wait' doesn't seem like the kind of movie that could so easily stay in the shadows. Maybe it didn't show the ideal of its genre and doesn't carry the scale of 'American Pie' and romanticism of 'It's All Her', but it's quite a decent comedy project from the range of youth movies with plenty of party scenes and other youth 'movement' - the very movie that young people like to watch in a fun company with popcorn.

The main character of the movie is Amanda, who is hopelessly in love with Preston Myers, her classmate, who has been hoping for her favor for four years without success, and during the prom he plans to achieve his goal at a party, which is organized where Amanda will be the queen. At the same event other young people gather with trivial goals: two horny ones want to 'shoot' someone there, three losers plan to take revenge on the class authorities for former offenses, and one girl wants to collect autographs of all her classmates in her album. Amanda was the middle and high school homecoming queen, but still has no definite plans for her life. She ignores Preston, and her friend from the very beginning of high school has been Mike Dexter, the school authority without whom she would hardly be queen, and right before the prom he dumped her, so Preston has a chance. In the midst of everyone having fun and partying on the verge of insanity, a guy getting ready for his first sex finds himself in an idiotic situation, not knowing what chance the situation will bring him. A stripper in an angel costume and a former high school authority figure, a current college loser, will share their revelations about life and love. And what's in store for the two nerds who didn't make it to the party and who are crazy for space blockbusters? I'll say one thing - everyone who is worthy of it is in for some pleasant surprises from fate, which won't spare everyone who can't wait for their happiness.

The film is a youth film, and it can be referred to the genre of comedy, but you should not expect a spectacle, where you can laugh at the full program - here is more situational cinema, rather than humorous, and expensive scenery is not observed, most of the film takes place in an ordinary American house, which, of course, seems to be a luxury for most people living in apartments, but you can not expect dazzling kinds of partying, although without active scenes of youthful detachment will not do without. More or less successful jokes turned out to be phrases from the scenes in the toilet with a locked guy and a girl; lyrics about a song about a dog named Amanda; and a scene where a letter for Amanda, thrown by Preston in despair into a garbage can when he saw her with another man, amusingly moved around the house because of the unbridled actions of the guests at the party. The scene with everyone fleeing at the sight of the cops arriving struck a bacchanal, but the scene with the would-be loser performing in the middle of the party, in what appears to be a rock 'n' roll style, was sensational. 'Friday' is similar to this movie only in its overall structure of a comedy with multiple storylines involving young people of varying success and wealth, and it's possible that its writers actually borrowed the plot structure from here. 'Can't Wait' is a light holiday movie with a moderate amount of vulgarity and plenty of licentious behavior of American youth, which is famous for its licentiousness to the delight of fans of such movies about it. Just the thing for watching with friends.
