A group of fashionable young people gather at a rich friend's chic country house. In the midst of a fun party, the guys decide to play a game of "Bodies, Bodies, Bodies": they draw lots, and whoever has a piece of paper with an X on it is appointed "killer" who must secretly "kill" the others. But in the process, it turns out that someone really killed the owner of the house. Hysteria and a cascade of mutual suspicions grows.

It's no secret that the horror film genre is experiencing a kind of rebirth these days. At a time when most pop-corn horror films exploit the staples and clichés of the genre that have been around for a long time, it is the auteur representatives of the genre that undermine the canons of the genre and present a fresh perspective on it. One such film is "Bodies, Bodies, Bodies" by director Halina Raine.

The plot of this film evolves around a group of friends who get together in the posh country mansion of one of their own for some fun and shelter from an impending storm. In the midst of the merry party, the friends decide to play a game of "Bodies, Bodies, Bodies": they draw lots and whoever has the paper with the cross on it is designated as the "killer" who must "secretly kill" the others. However, soon the owner of the house turns up dead and the game of the main characters takes on a real character.

This film definitely boasts a really interesting, unusual and full of unexpected plot twists and turns. That is definitely a rarity for the genre. At first sight, we face another slasher for young people, in which a murderer, hiding his true identity till the last shots, kills his friends one by one. But this is a screen, or even a sham, behind which the filmmakers not only deconstruct the genre, but also present "Euphoria" from the world of horror films.

The authors of this film deliberately build the story on numerous clichés and clichés of the genre at the level of meta-irony in the spirit of "Scream" and "I'm Going to Search" (except without the geeky moments) and already in the following frames turn what has been shown on the screen inside out. It's a welcome sign that everything shown on screen is far from what it seems at first glance. Which in turn turns out to be the necessary ground for raising the degree of paranoia, which literally tears the masks off the faces of the main characters. Showing loyal friends and good guys as real egoists, bullies, gaslighters and just unpleasant types who are just waiting to stab you in the back. Thus, in fact, exposing the face of modern society and voicing sad conclusions about its moral and ethical values.

It is impossible not to mention Halina Raine's talented directing, which is truly impressive for "yesterday's debutante." It is very difficult to make films at the junction of the genres of comedy and chorus without kinks in one of the sides. However, Raine certainly succeeded and the picture is very close to the aforementioned "Scream" and "I'm Going to Look". It is an extremely interesting and unusual symbiosis of the black comedy and horror film genres with slasher elements, making full use of the potential of each genre. Including eagerly pleasing clip visuals and a surprisingly measured narrative.

The cast also played an important role in making such a strong viewing experience. This is one of those rare cases where each of the actors perfectly hit their mark, played their part on the screen with talent and did not try to draw attention to their side. Especially good is Amanda Stenberg, who abstracted as much as possible from the usual "good girl" image and created a really convincing image of a bitch and a badass.
