His many roles include Vietnam veteran John Rambo, fearless police officer Marion Cobretti, nicknamed Cobra, and mountain climber Gabe Walker, a friend who is never afraid to go to the mountains; but a simple guy who loves his job always stands apart, the role with which it all began - we are talking about the phenomenal Rocky Balboa. This character, written and played by an then-unknown beginner actor with a facial defect, instantly lifted his creator to the top of fame, earning both high box office receipts, critical acclaim, and the title of "symbol of the nation." The franchise was so popular that it lasted 30 years, despite some blunders. 6th part, "Rocky Balboa" actually revived Stallone's career, giving it a new breath. All the more sad at the end of the tape was to see Rocky leaving the ring, not defeating a strong opponent, but not leaving the defeated one. It seemed that an entire era was fading into the shadows with him, which was confirmed by the comments of the actor himself about the "fat point" in the history of the famous film boxer. However, life can be very unpredictable.

An unexpected turn in the development of the franchise came at a time when, again, an unknown young filmmaker Ryan Coogler, who was just filming his full-length debut, suggested a further development that would restart the whole story, but did not slide into a banal high-budget remake with fashionable actors. This was the story of Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky's former opponent, who would like to continue his father's work. It is worth paying tribute to Stallone that he believed in this young man and entrusted him with the brainchild of his whole life, which played a crucial role in the career of an actor. Soon widely known for his drama "Frutivale Station" Kugler with renewed vigor set about relaunching the history of the famous boxer, and we have to agree: the project was a success.

Young Adonis Creed, who is the illegitimate child of the former rival, and then the best friend of Rocky - Apollo Creed, is adopted by his widow in memory of her husband. From a permanent resident of special detention centers and boarding schools, an educated young man, beautifully performed by Michael B. Jordan, grows up, with the prospects for a good job and a stable life. But the genes turn out to be stronger: previously acting as an amateur, Adonis chooses the path of a professional boxer. Here he will find both the road to fame and the love of a young girl, a talented singer with progressive deafness, but the main thing is a meeting with a coach, a man who should change Creed Jr.'s whole life - we are, of course, talking about the great Rocky Balboa. His hero feels the inexorableness of time on himself, health is gone, all his friends have left him, and it was not possible to normalize relations with his own son. "No Country for Old Men", the whole center of the Rocky universe now comes down to maintaining the family restaurant, named after his late wife. And at this moment, his boring life will suddenly take on new shades, allowing him to return to his favorite work, even if in a different role.

Despite the seemingly stamped film, Kugler managed to level all the "sharp corners" of the script, without slipping into vulgarity. His vision of a boxing film unexpectedly comes out from a new angle, allowing to recreate and develop a non-trivial, gripping and highly emotional story. The message of the film concerns both the theme of personal search in this world, and the theme of human alienation, and consideration of the eternal theme of “fathers and children”. His Adonis turned out to be not just another blockhead, eager to win a loud title, but an emotional and big-hearted guy, whose external feigned "coolness" is a shell for a sensitive and loving soul. He manages to find the strength to follow his vocation, and not the convenience in life, love and real relationships, and not their imitation, his personal searches lead to finding a father, whose presence he was deprived of for many years - a strong emotional connection with his mentor, who became more for Creed Jr. than just a coach.

Sylvester Stallone in his role is definitely gorgeous. On the other side of the ropes, it looks no less impressive than before in the ring. His Rocky, it would seem, is a role from which the actor could have been tired for a long time, reveals new facets of character, where a person who is mortally afraid of loneliness hides behind external indifference. For me, Stallone as an actor manifested itself back in the 6th part, which only cost the scene of Rocky's conversation with his son, one of the most strongly performed in his career. I must admit: Stallone surpassed himself in this film. He did not have such a strong and emotional presentation for a very long time, in fact, this film is a real revival of Stallone, which should finally break the arguments of skeptics who spoke about the lack of talent of the legendary actor. I sincerely hope that his role will be honored in the current awards season, the chances of getting his first Oscar nomination in 40 years from Stallone are greater than ever.

The film is based not only on a dynamic direction, a sane script and two main characters. The composition of the second plan, including the young and promising Tesa Thompson and the experienced Felicia Rashad, perfectly complements and gives a different depth to the whole story. Technically, the film was also released at a high level, besides the traditionally strong work of the cameraman and editor, I want to highlight another person who made a huge contribution to the picture - we are talking about the young composer Ludwig Goransson. Carefully handling the legacy of his predecessor Bill Conti, Goransson fills the tape with modern music, among which the Creed theme stands apart, worthily replacing the well-known and phenomenally motivating Gonna fly now with the equally exciting and powerful Fighting strong, fighting harder, a sort of battle anthem of the new ring hero. Epic orchestrations, accompanied by the active use of choral arrangements, creates the very fighting mood that motivates himself to throw all his strength into training, not for glory, but to feel alive, to feel part of that courage and unbridled desire for victory that captures the main characters " Creed ".

As a result, Ryan Coogler's directorial experiment to restart the Rocky franchise can be considered successfully completed. The film shows good dynamics at the box office, critics for the first time in the history of the franchise have so highly praised the film at the level of the first part, the award season is not far off, in which, I am sure, Creed will sound more than once, and there is a huge potential to tell a couple more stories of struggle in the ring and in the life of a young boxer and his experienced mentor. The most important thing is that the film turned out to be really emotionally filled and strong, which is a rarity for modern cinema, especially with regards to mass cinema.
