Review 4K Movie
According to the plot, Nilin (Jones) is a gangster, wise over years and experience, who smashed more than one head with a car door in his youth. He is the right hand man of the respected London businessman Harris (Malcolm McDowell). This same Harris is eager to launder dirty money through the oil company of an old friend from the United States, Preston (Ron Perlman). Therefore, Harris gets on a private plane, taking Nilin and his young mistress with him, and Nilin, in turn, grabs his young mistress and some dude who does not influence the course of the narrative, and this entire honorary delegation flies across the blue Atlantic to the country of the Apaches and Delaware. There, in the Appalachian mountains, at a small airfield, Preston is already waiting for them in the company of his son Junior (Brandon Sklenar) and his lads.
While the old people hug after years of separation, and the lads unload suitcases with millions of pounds, Junior drool over both young mistresses of the distinguished guests from Foggy Albion, which is the plot of the plot. Preston Jr. is a womanizer anywhere, from whom not a single skirt has yet been crumpled, as all the locals are aware of for miles around. So far, only the newly arrived British citizens do not know about this, which will soon play a cruel joke with one of them.
After signing the necessary documents, a sabantuy follows at a local spit bar. Nilin gets drunk in rags, forgetting about her friend, and in the morning she discovers her absence. Now, heroically overcoming the hangover syndrome and tremors in all six limbs, the British gangster needs to find the lost soul, and he will find it. But this will not bring him happiness.
If a respected reader thinks that I spoiled half of the film, then I hasten to reassure you - this is not so. All the described action takes place in the first fifteen minutes of the timing. Further, in fact, the main story begins, not too full of unexpected turns.
The undoubted plus of the film is Ron Perlman, familiar to all fans of action movies of the 90s, who looks good in the frame. That is, as always - an image that has been worked out over the years: a kind of tough uncle with a touch of rough and very peculiar justice, who feels like a master in his area and will not stand up for the price in any scenario.
The undoubted disadvantage is the hero of Vinnie Jones, who initially appears as the same Big Chris from “Cards, Money, Two Barrels”, and later in fact turns out to be that whiner and a rag who cannot do anything to achieve his goal. If not for the help of the locals and Preston's loyal attitude (out of respect for Harris), then where Nilin sat down, there would have been tears. That is, he would have rest in peace pretty soon, because he only does what he gets from anyone. And to shoot accurately at least a couple of times is generally an impossible task for him.
Another plus is the camera work. You also need to be able to show beautifully not beautiful things: dirty periphery, dusty provincial streets of an unnamed town and terry southern flavor look good, although the topic itself has long been chewed up and spat out by American filmmakers. And not only America.
Another disadvantage is McDowell. Here he looks more like a kind grandfather than a man who goes over the heads and mercilessly unscrews these very heads. Although, anything can happen, but people are different, so his image is a matter of taste. However, if I were Stanislavsky, I would have shouted: “I don’t believe!”, Having seen the performance of this undoubtedly deserved and respected actor. But I am not Stanislavsky, so I am silent.
Tons of pretentious speeches, which should carry the philosophy of a certain tough guy, look more like the babbling of a five-year-old. But, in principle, no one expected a breakthrough from a low-budget and rather passable film. Another craft, designed to play on images smelling of mothballs. It doesn't represent anything special, but it doesn't look like sheer slag either. You can see it once. If only for the sake of seeing Vinnie Jones from a not very familiar angle.
