Story Movie

Brothers and their girlfriends go on a road trip, which is supposed to be the last entertainment before going to Vietnam. On the way they get into an accident, and then the local sheriff appears, and their acquaintance with him becomes the beginning of a nightmare: the guys find themselves in a gloomy house, where a ruthless killer nicknamed Leatherface lives.

Review 4K Movie

“There comes a time when a boy becomes a man,” said Sheriff Hoyt, watching Thomas “Leatherface” Hewitt chase after his next victim, wielding a chainsaw.

I remember when The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning was first released, I immediately saw it as a silly, faceless prequel to the first film with different actors. Fortunately, I was very wrong. At the very beginning of the film, when the familiar Sheriff Hoyt appears on screen, it becomes clear that this is the best prequel to date.

Honestly, even one sheriff would have been enough to make the film look good, but the authors went much further. They brought back the entire cast of the previous film. Even the big guy who plays Leatherface is the same. His face is never shown throughout the entire film, but thanks to the credits, you can be sure that it's really him.

In general, when I watched The Texas Chainsaw Massacre back in 2003, I wasn't even interested in questions about the origin of certain phenomena. I was captivated by the plot and the atmosphere it contained. Twenty minutes in, when the film tells the story of where Thomas Hewitt came from and how Sheriff Hoyt became sheriff, a genuine interest in the answers to other questions begins. And the film answers all the questions except one: where did the six-year-old boy from the original come from?

Unfortunately, anyone who has seen the original may accuse the film of being predictable, as there is no “spontaneity” in the film. In many ways, the script turned out to be so rich because one of its co-writers is David Shaw, who was at the origins of the classic trilogy of the 80s. Otherwise, the entire production team, led by Michael Bay, remained intact. The sets, too, by the way. I won't say anything about the actors, as it's a fairly standard cast of victims, with all the consequences that entails.

Well, overall, it's not the best “TRB,” but there's no doubt that it's the best prequel. These two films look like one whole, so the film is a must-see for both fans of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” and horror fans in general.
