Story Movie

Baron Frankenstein, condemned to death, demands a priest and tells him his story. After the death of his mother, while still a young man, he inherited a fortune and immediately hired a tutor, Professor Kremp. Together they studied various sciences and conducted numerous experiments, as a result, one day they even managed to revive a dead dog. As an adult, Frankenstein already knew that his life would be devoted to science, and he had an ambitious idea to revive a human being.

Review 4K Movie

A classic plot with an English twist. In 1957, Terence Fisher managed to make a film that has become a classic horror movie. How did he do it?

Firstly, the cast. Peter Cushing managed to bring the mad baron to life on screen. In Hammer's version, the emphasis is on Peter Frankenstein's attitude towards his life's work. He unhesitatingly transgresses all ethical, social, and religious norms for the sake of creating his own homunculus. The leitmotif of the film is the scientist's obsession, not the feelings of the creature he has created. Christopher Lee really does look more like a golem in the classic sense. Robert Urquhart, who plays the baron's friend and teacher Paul Kremp, is annoying with his positivity and desire for truth, which, however, does not prevent him from stealing the bride from the unfortunate Frankenstein.

The plot develops dynamically, so there's no need to yawn during long, boring dialogues. The sets for 1957 are also high quality, it's just a pity that they cut the scene with the heads lying in acid.

The only flaw is Frankenstein's sudden maturation. In just a few years of study, he transforms from a snub-nosed boy into a mature man, but this can be explained by the fact that mental work ages the body much more than physical work.

Overall, as a classic horror film, The Curse of Frankenstein is worth watching.
