Story Movie

Successful novelist Ben Meyers returns to his hometown of Salem after many years away. He sees the ominous Marsten House, which holds unpleasant childhood memories for him. The house has now been purchased by antique dealer Stryker and his mysterious partner, Barlow. When local residents begin to disappear and then return as vampires, Meyers begins to suspect that Barlow and Stryker are not at all who they claim to be.

Review 4K Movie

The film captures the spirit of its time and is one of the first adaptations of a Stephen King novel. The famous writer returns to his hometown, which he left as a child, to write a book about his most terrifying childhood memory—the Marsten House. And from there, a sinister series of terrifying events unfolds in this small town. What I mean is that since this film dates back to 1979, it doesn’t rely on special effects or stunning cinematography, but rather on what was enough for audiences of that time—the plot itself and the music that sends shivers down your spine.

Of course, now, when flying vampire children knock on the window, trying to lure out their prey, a smile spreads across your face, and at first you think they’re hanging from some kind of hook with a rope, pretending to fly, however, the music in these moments eventually wipes the smile off your face, and you start—well, not exactly to be afraid, but at least to watch closely to see what happens next, and that’s a huge plus, meaning you can confidently watch the film all the way through.
About vampires. For the first time in a long while, I saw a real vampire. Just as he should be: a cadaver-blue face, hideous hands, and inhuman eyes. Let’s say in *Blade*—and in many modern films—the vampire stereotype is an ordinary person who is no longer afraid of the light if they wear black sunglasses and black clothes, and whose main goal is to drink blood. Of course, it’s clear that the film industry is moving forward, and constantly showing a blue face would be silly and would bore the audience, but if we take the original image of a vampire, then the image of Mr. Barlow fits it perfectly. The only thing is that, just like in the movie *From Dusk Till Dawn*, as well as in this and many other films, a vampire is frightened not only by the crucifixion of Christ or a church cross, but also by any structure resembling one, which is incomprehensible to me. Although Mr. Barlow’s strength lies in the fact that his power and grandeur were not intimidated by this. In the end, the film *Salem’s Lot* did not disappoint, even though I had initially watched the more modern version—*Salem’s Lot: The Final Chapter*.

The vampire theme will always be popular with audiences, as it leaves many mysteries and secrets surrounding their appearance on Earth and the purpose of their existence—after all, bloodsucking is merely a way for these creatures to satisfy their hunger.

If you weigh the overall pros and cons, you come to the conclusion that if you set aside the human-like portrayals of modern vampires and don’t expect a ton of blood and explosions—and ultimately realize that you’re watching a film made over 30 years ago—you’ll enjoy it, and you won’t regret watching it.
