Story Movie

The King's Man 4K 2021 Ultra HD 2160p
John considered his life quite prosperous. He was in good standing with his law firm, had a beautiful wife, Ann, and a mistress, Cynthia, who was Ann's little sister. This idyll was shattered by the arrival of his university friend Graham, who seemed a little strange to Ann and John.

Once at the bar with Ann, Graham confessed to her that he was currently impotent. Upon visiting Graham, Ann discovered he had a series of videotapes, each with a woman's name on them. Through persistence, Ann learned that each videotape contained a woman's sexual confession. She also learned that this is how Graham gets sexual gratification.

Review 4K Movie

I will say in advance that I liked the movie. But I didn't like the way everyone perceives the characters, how they are positioned in the film and that's why the review is red.

The film has four main characters, John, Ann, Graham and Cynthia. John is Ann's husband, working as a junior partner in a law firm and at the same time cheating on Ann with her sister Cynthia. Ann is a stay-at-home wife suffering from mental problems. Graham is an old friend of John's who comes to visit John for a couple of days. He's such a simple romantic, wanting to have one key and live in the car because it's easy. Well, and Cynthia, who has a lifelong rivalry with her sister and, as I mentioned, sleeps with her husband.

Needless to say, from this narrative and positioning it's immediately obvious who the negative and positive characters are: the careerist John and the horrible sister Cynthia are positioned by everyone as 'liars', and John is also a 'lawyer'. And obviously the 'soulful' Anne 'suffering' from such a 'soulless' husband and the 'romantic' Graham would be such bastions of purity in this work. But that's not all it is. At least I saw them all differently.

I'll start with Ann. She's a regular housewife with too much free time on her hands. For some reason, she and John have no children. Although John makes a lot of money and they have plenty of space (they live in a big house). Oh yeah, she doesn't sleep with her husband at all. Why not? Everyone says she's not attracted to him with his animal feelings, and she's a delicate flower who lives by emotion. Are you serious? Why did this delicate flower then marry a man she didn't love, didn't want? Why won't she divorce him now? Maybe because 'I like that he's not some freelance artist, but a junior partner.' Maybe that's why? She has a huge number of vices and she is the first major liar in this picture. She prefers to discuss all her problems with a psychologist, but not with her husband. She does nothing at all in the presence of her husband. There was one scene of their conversation. So it took place at about 3-4 in the morning and it was a jealous outburst of 'you're cheating on me with my sister!' She didn't even bother to say 'I think we're estranged, so I decided that' and other trivial phrases for talking to her partner. But no, she chose to shut up. The same goes for sex. She doesn't feel orgasms, or yes or no... She doesn't know... This awful stiffness, this savage uninhibitedness amazes me. Everyone condemns John, but I don't see his fault here.

John is ordinary. His name was probably chosen by John on purpose (John = our Ivan, which is a typical American). He lives in a house, works a job, cheats on his wife, but is an ordinary man. He is even a simple man. He doesn't get the hints that Ann sometimes gives and he doesn't see, or doesn't want to see, what is going on with her. I think more likely the former: he just left her to herself, naively thinking that since she is a grown-up she will take care of herself. John is the most sincere of all the characters. Yes, yes. Because what he does, which is just physically sleeping with another woman, is many times better than what the others do, which is pretend, lying to everyone around him and to themselves. John should have ditched this tandem of psychotic sisters and found himself a good wife who would satisfy him and love him for his simplicity and for 'having a healthy man in bed.

Let's move on to Cynthia. Major lie number two. She does everything her sister does, only in reverse. Why? Jealousy, apparently. Ann is a tall girl with slight facial features. Whereas Cynthia is short, with awkward eyebrows and an inferior face. That's why she sleeps with John, smokes, drinks, sleeps with anyone Ann will only talk about, doesn't think about a Birthday present for her mother (because her sister does), and so on. Anyway, I've never understood sibling rivalry (since I simply don't have siblings) and so all I can say is that both Ann and Cynthia are both hypocritical with their calls to each other (did I forget to mention that they communicate often?) and their communication, though a little hostile, has never raised the point of their enmity: what's the problem, then? Why does Ann hate sexual behavior because of her sister's pouting promiscuity, why does Cynthia hate Ann so much, since she is her sister? Neither of them tells the other about it. Ever. And even though they hate each other, they continue to communicate as if nothing had happened. Hypocrisy? Yes.

But they can reveal all their secrets to Graham. Why? Because he's impotent. An unemployed man who takes money from his mattress. Wants to live with just one key, and rents an apartment the next week. All in all, positions himself as a 'mystery guy', but in reality is a regular hypocrite. But, Anne was attracted to that kind of guy (no wonder, since she is one herself). Well, since Graham attracted Anne, Cynthia should be the first to fall for him, although to her surprise it turns out that he is impotent (what a pity). After interacting with Graham, both sisters begin to judge John, for his simplicity and straightforwardness (yes, yes). And Graham is so unique and unusual. He's impotent, he videotapes sex interviews... Yeah, he's definitely sincere and can listen. Thank God Ann ends this farce and gets the whole truth out of this hypocrite: he's not a romantic or a 'simple guy'. At one time, after breaking up with some Veronica or whoever, he's been stuck there emotionally ever since and can't (apparently) let her go. That's why he's psychologically impotent. That's why he needs one key - to constantly go from place to place. To get away from his thoughts. Run away from them. To get away from the problem. To lie to himself.

And these people, Ann and Graham are the bastions of purity and sincerity? They are the first people to lie in this movie! And the worst thing they do is lie to themselves. The first can't admit that she just likes stability and affluence and that's why she married John, whom she stopped loving absolutely in the future. The second one behind the mask of a simpleton is actually running away from the truth and lying to everyone around him.

The movie is very interesting to watch. But I don't understand why the creators themselves and everyone who watched it position the characters so trite: those are bad because they cheat, these are good because they look for themselves and do nothing.
