Seventeen-year-old Makoto doesn't do well in school, is always late, and hangs out in the evenings with her two best friends, Kosuke and Tiaki. Both guys have a crush on her, but neither one dares to make the first move. Makoto's life changes drastically when she accidentally gains the ability to travel through time. The girl decides to fix the worst day of her life, but gradually realizes that everything has its consequences.

I didn't want to write a review for this film, but realizing how much excitement it stirred up in me made me want to share my impressions.

I don't know why Japanese cartoons are so heartfelt; they touch your soul and stay with you even days later. Why is that?

Because, unlike American cartoons, Japanese animated films are actually movies, and movies with exciting themes of love, time, friendship, and childhood. These are films for the soul, for memories, for analyzing life situations.

The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is one such cartoon. And although many users wrote about the theme of “time” in their comments, the theme of “love” is just as prominent. Why do we reject those who like us, and only realize that this feeling of love is mutual when they have already turned their backs on us or when, as in this film, it is already too late?
While watching, you find yourself in another world, living alongside the main character, and whatever sadness she feels, you feel too. And yet it is a bright sadness, just like the whole film, and you sit until the very end of the credits with a feeling in your heart that the “fairy tale” is over and you have to return to “your” world, a world that will never be a fairy tale!
